Recently, I studied the mana cost of 2/2 across various releases of Magic. I found that, to a large extent, the mana cost decreased over releases. I thought that this was to be expected, but it is good to know. Of course, Wizards of the Coast makes Magic to sell, so newer editions should be better, but it does raise the question of when will they stop. Oveer time, I think tis could mean the end of the creature with no abilities, a fundamental part of the game. Do you think this is good?
If you're referring to vanilla 2/2 creatures, they aren't a fundamental part of the game. A 2/2 for two isn't remotely playable, and even a 2/2 for one is only playable if it has another ability or fits into a specific deck. The issue of power creep in creatures has been talked about to no end. It is a given that creatures have gotten more powerful, in general, over time. To me, it appears as though WOTC had been trying to slow this trend a bit, but then came the Eldrazi....
