The first time I started playing Magic it was with a deck that someone gave me for free. A mono green deck and I would split it in half with my brother. I do not completely remember what the first card I played was but I remember that in that deck there was an axebane stag that I thought was the best card ever. That was one of the first cards I have ever played.
My first land was forest.
Drudge Skeletons and Swamp. Parents had a gift set of revised cards with a couple starter decks and like 20 boosters which they gave me when they found I had an interest in them. I remember reading the little rule booklet and playing all those revised cards against one another for a long time. I believe that Tempest had just come out and my friends were playing newer cards and were constantly annoyed by my sol rings, swords to plowshares and wrath of gods.
I'm and old player. Can't remember my first played card, but I'm pretty sure it was a card from a Revised starter deck. Back in the time we opened those decks and played with them out of the box.
Im not 100% sure it was probably something like a tormented soul that i put in my m13 toolkit vampire deck as filler. But the first creature i ever cast in that deck that actually was a vampire was vampire nighthawk. I think i opened 3 in the tool kit. then it turned out casually vampire night hawk is a really good card.

My first land was forest.
My first deck was a very janky U/B discard control list using Mind Rot and Megrim as wincons.
