I was always curious about what people where playing for cards and decks during the early 90's, like Ice Age and earlier. Most of the cards that we view today as "broken" didn't even see play from what I understand and I was curious as to what the meta might have been like.

You mean the power 9? Of course they saw competitive play. It was the casual players (which was most players back then) who didn't necessarily understand how good they were.
But to your point, from what I know, powerhouse cards(aside from cards that are still powerhouses) included:

ErhnamGeddon was definitely a thing, and a pain in the butt. Necropotence decks were popular. Casual guys loved Shivan Dragon and Royal Assassin along with Sorceress Queen. Good times.
