Just curious to know what some cards you guys think are overpriced?
One I thought of off the top was Fulminator Mage. I kow this card has its uses but for $30+ each for a card thats mainly a sideboard when other somewhat similar effect cards like Molten Rain and Blood Moon are not even close to that high. Yeah its a body on a card with utility and could be useful off Aether Vial and Pod. But still $30+, you probably dont want a play set but 3 at around $100. http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/magic_single_card.asp?cn=Fulminator Mage&ref=hover
Being that Fulminator Mage is a creature it makes it easy to abuse and you can play it now and use it later. I think Tarmogoyf is overpriced since it was reprinted in Modern Masters. The only reason goyf is so expensive is because people fell for the hype. I loved Tarmogoyf in my old Tarmorack deck but the truth was Dark Confidant was more important to the deck.
Noble Hierarch and Mutavault because their obscene prices get in the way of me building my dream Phelddagrif tribal deck.
I think that's band but I guess it would be worse if I was a more serious player dreaming of decks that involve the original duals and force of will and stuff.
All of them. I know people say that a lot, but seriously. All of them.
The value placed on them above the cost of manufacturing, packaging, and shipping, is community based. I'm not saying i haven't paid 30 bucks for a card, so i'm willing to let up to $30 slide. Anything more than that makes me cry sad tears.

Whats the big deal about black lotus you ask? Well you see, there is no big deal about it. It IS the big deal.

You took my post. I agree, the price we pay for fancy crap printed on card stock is ridiculous. Doesn't stop me from throwing more money at the game, but it makes me laugh sometimes when I think about it.
Due to real-life obligations, I am taking a long break from Magic which may include missing the local Legacy GP. Apologies for not being able to keep my threads updated.

I wholeheartedly agree with "Everything" but there are definitely specific cards I think go above and beyond reasonable pricing.
Portal Three Kingdoms cards. I understand this is a collectible card game and that set only sold in small quantities, but Capture of Jingzhou should not cost the same amount as Time Walk. It just shouldn't.
Also, uncommons that cost more than $5. I see an unreasonable number of Force of Wills sitting in binders because of horders. Mana Drain. Karakas It is crazy to me to think that at some point, people may have been throwing these cards away like we do with most uncommons nowadays.
Threads of Disloyalty and Fulminator Mage
Those are really good cards but there is no reason for them to be as expensive as they are since are sideboard only cards.
None of them can really be overpriced, sort of by definition. If they weren't in demand enough and/or rare enough to demand a $30 price tag, they wouldn't cost $30. That said, they all cost more than I'm willing to spend on them - hence why I only play limited and Cockatrice.
It is though. In a mill deck, 12 cards can make about the same difference as four damage in a burn deck.
But shocks to lightning bolts --> cost about 6 dollars.
Mind Sculpt to Glimpse --> 80 dollars, and an extra color in your deck. Which is probably going to require a few expensive dual lands to make sure you can cast it.

Yes, you can always make bad, budget versions of things, but that doesn't mean the budget cards "fill in nicely." Not that mill is a real archetype, but I think the few times I've ever lost to one, it came down to a handful of cards. It's a replacement, it's just a bad replacement.
I personally think Black Lotus is overpriced being in the 1000's, there's a lot of other cards that can give the same affect even better, I understand that it doesn't cost mana to play and that you get quick mana but what are the odds of you having one at the beginning of the game?, It's not like you're gonna have more than one in a deck.
Also, it only allows one color which kind've screws you over when you have a multi-colored deck and a high-mana cost multi-colored card you need to play.
I'm sorry, but what other cards give a better effect? The cards that give a similar effect (Lion's Eye Diamond, Lotus Petal, Lotus Bloom, Dark Ritual, Cabal Ritual, Desperate Ritual, Pyretic Ritual, etc., are all vastly inferior. The Moxen are better for some things, worse for others. Also, it costs that much because it's rare, not just because of it's power level. There are rares from ABU that cost hundreds even though they've been reprinted multiple times and the newest versions only cost under $5 (Birds of Paradise, for example).

Glimpse the Unthinkable wouldnt be in a budget deck and can you find a better card for budget deck that would replace it better than Mind Sculpt does. I didnt say it fills in for a Championship contending deck where you would want the best stuff price or not. Its a bad replacement for that aspect but not for a budget one. Is going from 10 to 7 cards and having to pay a harder mana cost worth $80 to $100 difference, maybe for some.
By far it's Tarmogoyf. Yes, I understand its a very good creature that is running rampant (pun intended) in Legacy. But, I don't see why its at that high of a price point. While, Force of Will, a card with less in circulation and is currently holding together the format, is around half the price. Makes no sense.

Thirding "everything", yet, I love them all still.
In fact, if Magic was cheaper, I wouldn't be spending less money on it, I'd just have a ton more decks.

I agree, its a good card but for about $100 less for a playset Mind Sculpt fills in nicely.
This isn't much different than saying that Shock fills in nicely for Lightning Bolt.
