I open my first ever Deckbuilder's Toolkit, looking to kickstart my Green Blue deck. In the second booster pack? A foil Domri Rade Planeswalker (Approximately worth 50 dollars). If you would be so kind, take the poll and give me your opinion (I made sure to add plenty of choices).
Domri is excellent at what he does - provide card advantage and removal in a creature-centric deck. Therein lies the issue - Domri wants to be in a deck packed with creatures that he can find and use. In a R/G Monsters shell, he excels and looks like one of the best walkers in the game. Outside of that shell, he's virtually unplayable. I don't expect him to see a ton of eternal format play unless creature decks become the focus in the future. That said, if you don't need him, trade him off while his value is peaking.
Domri plus Slivers could be fun, if you take it the aggro route. Many Slivers decks are control-themed with counter magic and that doesn't play well with Domri.
I started off with a 1/4 sliver 1/4 regular green red deck, played with it, Domri worked real nice. Now my Sliver orders are coming in and the ratio of sliver to regular is growing...and the deck is only getting better.
The thing is, Domri gives my creatures a few things that my other slivers can't with it's ultimate.
Hm. There should be a "Sliming/Molding/Miming Sliver" of sorts, where other slivers are granted the same enchantments as it.
Say you cast a spell on the sliver to make it indestructible. All other slivers are now indestructible. Say you cast a spell to make it +4/+4. All other slivers are now +4/+4. Would be quite the mana cost to get that powerful a card out, though
I've managed to get 2 foils in trades when the card just came out and its been in all my standard decks.
I'm holding on to them because there are still modern lists that run 2 in maindeck or sideboard (I have 2 in my Zoo's sideboard for the grindier games)
The good news is foil planeswalkers tend to hold on to their price tag after rotation (at least compared to non-foils) so you don't have to be rushed into trading it away, keep it and have fun with him
