I noticed there was no voting activity after the first few days. I can always cut this down from 7 days to 4 if people prefer. Either way I want to keep the same space between each card, for consistency. Let me know what you think.
Return to Ravnica spoiler season is in full swing, and there's been a number of stunning arts going up (understatement?). The lands have caused a lot of chatter, from the decision to reprint Richard Wright's five lands from the original Ravnica, to the new shock land art. So I thought it might be nice to look at the artists who did lands the first time round, but aren't being used this time.
Christopher Moeller is one such, and he's done a lot more than that!
Choose one card only as your favourite by this artist, with as many honourable mentions as you like. This will stay open for one week (subject to the point made above). If you vote for a card with multiple art, such as basic land, remember to link directly to the card so we know which one you're talking about.
There's no pressure to vote for a Ravnica land art here!
And the winner is... Siege-Gang Commander. It's the funniest Magic art of all time. I love everything about it. I love the stupid catapult contraption. I love the thumbs up. I love the spear helmets. I love the serious expression on the leader's face and the wary expression on the projectile's face. I love that the art matches the card's abilities perfectly. My favorite card of all time got one of my favorite arts of all time. Thanks Chris!

The wedding is over. Now it's time for the honeymoon.
But I have to say... Blackmail is pretty bad. I get that he was going for the same expression as Braids, but uhh... I don't think he quite got there...

I had considered another of the original Ravnica land artists, but decided to avoid another Christopher Moeller moment. Plenty of time after spoiler season. Plus Pete has been asked for, so here you go!
As always, vote for one card only as your favourite by this artist, with as many Honourable Mentions as you like. Voting will stay open for one week. If you would like to recommend an artist for us to cover in future weeks, add that after your vote.
If there's one thing I like about Peter Venters it is the way he often pairs his artworks. Hoarder's Greed and Exiled Boggart, as an example.
Also receiving votes were:
Phyrexian Arena
Phthisis
Defender of Chaos/Law
Exhume
Morinfen
Darksteel Colossus
Decree of Pain
Jedit Ojanen of Efrava
Ironclaw Buzzardiers

My own vote, after some thought, goes to Sphere of Reason, with HMs to Copper-Leaf Angel, Sylvan Ranger, Vampire's Bite, and Lys Alana Scarblade
HM to the entire Mortiphobia cycle.
Man, he has so many good pieces though.
Molten Firebird
Need for Speed
Oyobi, Who Splits the Heavens
Samurai of the Pale Curtain
Sower of Temptation
Toshiro Umezawa

HMs go to Lys Alana Scarblade, Gilt-Leaf Palace, Wooded Bastion, and his Ravnica basics, specifically Plains and Forest.
I don't always post about Rafiq of the Many, but when I do, I cardlink to the original artwork, and not the supplementary product version.
"I trust myself to do my duty, even unto death. It's what comes after that I'm afraid of."
"Just fight without fear. Your soul is protected by the hand of Avacyn and will never submit to evil."
I think this is the most sensual card art in all of magic.

I think I liked his art ever since Copper-Leaf Angel, and would thus be my main vote for this one. I also remembered when Odyssey spoiler art came out and unrealistically hoped that Shelter would be some sort of legendary creature even though there were clearly prismatic light effects on the right. I'm sure that for others that like her, Moment of Silence wouldn't disappoint as well. My other HMs go to Isamaru, Hound of Konda, Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker, Master Thief, promo Spellstutter Sprite, and iconic goodies like Lightning Bolt, Pernicious Deed, and Umezawa's Jitte.
An all-time favorite art of mine, and still makes me chuckle.
HM: Kavu Aggressor, Night Terrors (a bit small on a card), Aggressive Urge, Champion of Lambholt
Just noticed that many (all?) of the female characters have strong/pointy chins. Examples: Copper-Leaf Angel, Pernicious Deed, Blackmail, Champion of Lambholt.
(I guess I should have gone with the safer option of Anthony S Waters)
HM to quite a few:
Isamaru, Hound of Konda
Aggressive Urge
Shelter
Twincast
Dizzy Spell
But I have to say... Blackmail is pretty bad. I get that he was going for the same expression as Braids, but uhh... I don't think he quite got there...

On a count of HMs, Copper-Leaf Angel and Shelter each had 2 as well. I pick... Copper-Leaf Angel as the winner!
Other cards receiving votes were:
Higure, the Still Wind
Isao, Enlightened Bushi
Strength of the Tajuru
Ink-Treader Nephilim
Ajani Goldmane (promo)
Pernicious Deed
Ravnica Forest

HMs:
Ancestor's Chosen

Fire at Will
Nocturnal Raid
Oppression
Phyrexian Arena

HM Megatog, if just for that little goblin.
Thanks to Rivenor of Miraculous Recovery Signatures!
Other goblins I have thought are funny - Megatog, Exiled Boggart, Fists of the Anvil (not to scale?), and Goblin Bowling Team. Backslide is also humorous, but perhaps not in the form originally intended.
HM to Natural Affinity and Tanglewalker.
Tanglewalker for the beauty & allure
Orcish Settlers for the whimsical & lulz
Phyrexian Arena for the perspective & environment
Survival of the Fittest for the savagery & gore
