Eh, gotta say, that Duel Deck Liliana Vess is one gorgeous and dangerous lady in the artwork. Probably be the only vote for it, but I had to.
Honorable mentions to Secluded Glen (for sheer beauty) and Legacy Weapon (okay, so I just happen to like Karn and company). Never much cared for the FoW art though.
Also, for the next artist, I humbly suggest Daarken. I absolutely love his work.

Sigpic by me, 'Angel of Despair' by Todd Lockwood, 'Kaalia of the Vast' by Michael Komarck, 'Defiler of Souls' by Paul Bonner
Descendants' Path - is just beautifully done with lots going on yet still tells a story Gaea's Skyfolk - love the colors Holy Strength - the details are amazing and clearly shows strength Mercadian Bazaar - again, the details Sealed Fate - disturbing art but I just find it wonderful to look at Stalking Tiger - the first time I saw the art for this card, I said to myself that it's impossible for it to have been drawn. Almost looks like a picture. Unholy Strength - same reasoning with Holy Strength Visions of Beyond - the swirls are beautifully done Zombie Mob - a personal favorite because it brings me back to the days of old
My vote goes to Visions of Beyond

Yes, artists like Nielsen, Avon, Walker, Tedin, Alexander, who have had dozens, if not hundreds of pieces commissioned are very difficult to do. I'm actually surprised that we already have three separate cards each with two votes apiece.

Next artist to be considered is Chippy. Like Terese Nielsen, he's been illustrating cards for a number of years now, with cards going back as far as Mirage. In this time Chippy style has changed drastically, as you will see.
Again, vote for one card only as your favourite by this artist, with as many honourable mentions as you like. You may also include a single nomination for the next artist to be covered, though there is already a queue!

If that's your "casual," what on earth is required for "formal," a butler in livery shuffling the decks whilst a pianist plays Brahms in front of a tapestry?
Footsteps of the Goryo - I don't really understand the art but it looks too cool and creepy.
HMs: Ardent Plea - clean and crisp and so unlike Chippy because I've always associated dark colors with his cards. Sarkhan the Mad - Sarkhan just seems to fit being drawn by Chippy. His "madness" tends to show in the art. Shivan Meteor - the pause in action looks impressive.

Since you said you'll take nominations for the next artist, I would love to see Steve Argyle. I wouldn't mind Jason Chan or Kev Walker being soon as well.
Anyways as for my vote...I think it will go to: Bloom Tender- The coloring of this card and great. And the darkness is something that is seen in a lot of Chippy's work
It takes a lot of effort to surpass Mark Tedin's Lord of the Pit. I consider it the best art in Alpha. The detail is astounding, the water colors are bright and gorgeous, the demon looks unique, and the idea of the creature as an illustration in a book really is a neat one. I don't think any art has really achieved supremacy over Tedin's. However, Chippy's Lord of the Pit is the closest we've gotten. Excellent framing gives the creature an impression of size and menace, even with no scale reverences. The colors are mostly browns, but the contrast between light and dark still makes them stand out. The action of the piece is superb; many pieces of Chippy art can feel a bit static, but not this one. And I love the design of the creature; a lot of Magic demons just look cartoony, but Chippy's Lord of the Pit (And Tedin's) look truly god-like, especially with how they look half-formed as if they are materializing.
Honorable Mention Master Transmuter (Not number 1 just because I love the action and scale of Lord of the Pit)
Oh, I thought he was talking about playing a spell that is countering a spell with counters on it as it comes into play, but I see you guys were just discussing whether he was flashing a creature with flash in order to flash a flashback or just flashing a creature with flash but not needing flash in order to flashback a spell without flash.
This time it's the turn of Kev Walker. Kev has produced a lot of cards for Magic, going back well over a decade now, and is probalby one of the mainstays of magic art. This means there are a lot to choose from!
MagicCards.info link - please ignore Ninja of the Deep Hours, nice piece, but by a different artist and I have no idea why it's showing up.
How to vote: vote for one card only as your favorite by this artist. Give as many honorable mentions as you like. By all means tell us why your chosen card is your favorite. If you are voting for a land or other card with multiple instances, link directly to the card so we know which one you mean.
After you vote, by all means nominate an artist for the thread to cover next time. It won't be the sole means of selecting an artist, but will make a difference.
As with the others, this will stay up for one week for voting.
My own vote goes to Master of the Wild Hunt. Mr Walker has produced a number of portrait pieces, and this one is my favourite.
Damnation - There isn't much going on but I like it that the art just says "destruction".
HMs to
Air Elemental - * I forgot how to put the right link for the card version. - I love this card because of how the elemental looks like. Very much how fantasy should be. Hand of Cruelty - just pure evil and cruelty coming out of the art Kamahl, Pit Fighter - love the details in Kamahl's armor Ovinomancer - I find the goat so cute Plasma Elemental - so intimidatingly blue Uncontrollable Anger - again, details Upheaval - interesting play on light and shadows Ninja of the Deep Hours - because I just like ninjas! And this ninja is one of the best.
I'm still putting in Richard Kane Ferguson and Matt Cavotta for the next candidate artists. Hildebrandt brothers also (Greg and Tim).
