Null Rod's flavor text has come up quite often, but I just don't get it. Could someone please explain it? Is it just the fact that "doesn't do anything" can have its negations redistributed to form "does nothing", which, while logically the same thing, connotatively has a different meaning, hence the emphasis on "does"? Am I just overthinking it?
I'm quite enjoying Sunrise Sovereign's flavor text. It really shows how revered he is in a powerful way.
A hundred generations he mentored,
a hundred armies has he crushed beneath his feet,
yet only a hundred words has he ever spoken,
each more revered than a thousand books.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
My favorite is phyrexian hulk
"It doesn't think it doesn't feel
It doesn't laugh or cry
All it does from dusk til dawn
Is make the soldiers die"
Children's rhyme
Cataclysm - FTV Keep with you only this much: your mount, your blade, and your wits. The rest you can find, build, or take."
—Horse clans' wisdom
Armageddon - P2 War destroys more than just the land. War destroys hope.
Ravages of War - "Thorn bushes spring up wherever the army has passed. Lean years follow in the wake of a great war."Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching (trans. Feng and English)
I generally swap some cards when I'm playing Multiplayer, one of them being:
Tragic Arrogance The spear thrown by Kytheon's own hand was the weapon that felled his friends
These cards, sum up pretty nicely what opponents feel when they resolve, I think.
I wish there was a foil version of the p2 geddon, the text from the FTV version isn't as powerful: A bloody dawn broke over a scabbed and tortured world.
Edit: My all time fav, is that from Render Silent We have consfiscated your spells as evidence. Once we conclude our investigation, you may petition to have them returned I think it's just a prefect fit for the name, the effect, and the feeling opponens get when they cast it.
This flavor text is so perfect. It combines how the Jeskai, and many other martial artists, aren't berserkers or bloodthirsty or vengeful. They find the finesse in combat. The "calligraphy" of combat... normally, calligraphy is slow and fancy, which isn't something you'd associate with combat, but the Jeskai manage it. "Written", you're writing out how you're going to defeat your opponent, with actions being your words. "Strokes" has a double meaning here, and "blood" is the ink, and it's not just written, it's with "sudden" blood. The Jeskai monks strike before you even know what's happening, their discipline and training is so advanced. And it's an impactful visual of sudden blood, not just a bloody wound or puncture from an arrow.
"The correct answer to a barbarian's question is to choke on your cleverness and die."

How many flavor texts have serious storyline consequences, emotional weight, and a damn internal plot twist? Such is the power of Urabrask the Hidden.
