whats your favorit set? why? whats your favorit card? why?
please leave replies thanks...
mine is time spiral... because its the set that i came into the game with
and i dont have a true favorite card but i realy like notorious throng... because it gives u alot of freakin faeries and usualy ends the game for my opponet
I'd probably choose Guildpact. It gave black/white some more depth as a color pairing, and really showed just how brutal green/red is when given some attention.
favorite set would have to be planar chaos. seeing the color pie skewed in interesting ways was great, especially for a semi-new player like i was at the time. i'd say weatherlight, guildpact, and onslaught would be up there too.
favorite card? serum visions. as a blue player, setting up my first three turns is a sure-fire way for me to set up a win. serum visions has helped me so many times and i don't know how my blue deck would function without it.

Hey kids! Don't like rules? Tired of having your lulz censored by terrible, terrible people called "moderators"? Big fan of metal? Check out Metaln☺☺☺☺! This is probably the worst possible forum to advertise it on!
Added bonus: we're holding a songwriting contest in march with a registry drive going on right now! Check it out, plus the opportunity to earn $50!
My favourite set would be Invasion or Apocalypse, because thats when I started playing and had most fun with magic. Favourite card is difficult to pick but probably vindicate.
Favorite set: Tempest. I still remember looking at my friends' cards in 7th grade trying to piece together the world of Rath. The Weatherlight Saga holds a special place in my heart.
Favorite card: Kinsbaile Cavalier, 'cause he's an angry hobbit on a goat!
Favorite set: Odyssey. That is the set I really started playing in. Before that I had just played around with cards from 5th and 6th edition, which I don't consider to be REAL sets. I remember entering my first FNM with a R/G beatdown deck and making it into the semi-finals.
Favorite card: Mountain Goat.
It was the first card I saw when I opened my 5th edition starter. As a joke I put it in my R/G deck. During one game I played it on the very first turn and it actually ended up winning the game for me. The guy I was playing against got so focused on setting up his crazy strategy and killing all my bigger creatures he forgot the Mountain Goat was even there. Just poking him for one damage every turn.

I am probably the only person in the world that collects Tarnished Citadels. Not because I like the card, but because I don't want someone to get his hands on one and then attemp to actually play the damned thing.
My favorite is Tempest. So many awesome cool cards in every color. Plus I really like the characters and story. It was the set I learned the game on, so it holds a special place in my hear.
Honorable mentions go to Prophecy. I know a lot of people hate the set, but I LOVED the interactions of tapping/untapping permanents and lands. It really was an ingenious and cool design. Don't throw too many tomatoes at me.
I think my favorite set is Exodus for purely sentimental reasons. I learned to play when Fallen Empires had just come out, but Stronghold introduced me to limited play for the first time, and that's been my favorite part of magic ever since. Also, it had both Survival of the Fittest and Recurring Nightmare, and was the first set with gold/silver/block rarities. There are lots of sets with more powerful cards or better fleshed-out themes, but Exodus was special for me.
Well its either Tempest block, that's when I first got to use hive-minded insects. And it has my favorite villain Volrath center stage. Or Ravnica, I like two color decks and Ravnica was like heaven. I think that block prolly has more UG cards than all the rest combined. U and G rarely see eye to eye.
For cards its Counterspell cause I like saying, "No!"
Favourite set: Mirage. It was just a beautiful, groudbreaking set, and was pretty flawless in terms of flavor, art (and art direction), and fun/competitive cards.
Favourite card: Cabal Coffers. Just so damned powerful, and everything from the art to the flavor text really speaks to me as a black mage.
(Invasion block but) Planeshift. I loved Kickers, Gating and the battlemages. Cavern Harpy, Flametongue Kavu, and Shivan Wurm. All a lot of fun. The whole block combined made it better of course.
Favorite card:
Balance. Runner up, Pox. I like to neuter and I don't usually run a lot of creatures.

Favorite set? Hard to gauge...probably something in Odyssey, since that's when I learned how to play. (Granted, the first Magic card I ever saw was probably a beat-up Reflecting Pool that was eventually given to me.) I didn't start buying until Scourge, though.
Favourite set: The Dark - The setting, flavourtext, art and card design are just flawless really. Years before the Gathering Dark novel butchered the characters in the flavour text it was fun to imagine who Mairsil, Ith and the Church of Tal were. Somehow I still find the art much darker than sets such as Shadowmoor. The overcosted creatures and slower game play back then (Revised/4th Edition Golden Age) was amazing and interactive. You had more time to contemplate the game and be a true Vorthos, I think that's why you found RPG crowd people indulging in Magic too.
A close second would be Ice Age, followed by Fallen Empires and Mirage/Visions.
Favourite Card:Maze of Ith - I've forgotten how much fun and how invulnerable you felt with one of these out. Great art too. A close second would be Tracker, for the awesome art and flavour and providing green with direct creature kill.
My favorite set is Mirage. Before that I thought Magic was something no one would remember in a few years. Mirage, in addition to being beautiful and having actual poetry in its flavor text, proved that Magic could do more than just Tolkien-esque Northern European fantasy.
The set had its problems. Phasing is one of the worst abilities of all time. Still, it was such an important stylistic leap that the game needed to take in order to go from a fad to something on the shelf next to Monopoly and Scrabble. Also, it took the important step of introducing reminder text. It was annoying at first, but looking back from 12 years later I realize it needed to happen.
My favorite card is just good old Terror. It's cheap and it has great flavor: you can't kill robots or zombies because they don't scare. Right around the time someone began enforcing the "Only four of any card that's not basic land" rule I traded a slice of pizza and a Mt. Dew for my fourth Terror. I wanted it that badly.
Balance is also a lot of fun, but I play it infrequently. I also really liked Cycling as an ability. It gets rid of dead cards. Astral Slide and the "whenever you Cycle a card do X" cards were really interesting.
Fav block Ravnica. Fav set, Ravnica because it has my two fav guilds, Selesnya and Boros. I also like Mill (points to Glimpse and Szadeck. I don't have a fav card but in shadowmoor, its Repel Intruders.
Favourite set would be Portal Three Kingdoms. It has great flavour, one of my favourite mechanics (Horsemanship), and I just love the basic lands (I need more of them!)
Favourite card is Stone Rain. If it wasnt my favourite card, I wouldn't be trying to collect a playset from every expansion it has been printed in, and in every language for said expansions and in foil where possible.
