I'm an EDH player with my first Friday off in a while tomorrow. Does anyone have an open spot in a game tomorrow? I'm in Santa Rosa and would be down to drive to Marin, SF, Napa, or Berkeley. Santa Clara or San Jose are probably too far. I have decks at most power levels but prefer to play in the tier below cut-throat but above casual.
Bigger Better Games in Fremont (880 at Automall) started up some legacy tournaments on Thursdays, ~7:30ish (supposed to be 7 but they hold it for stragglers if you call ahead). $5, 10-proxy, fires at 6 players. Relatively low-power meta with a couple high rollers (some of them are experienced enough to know to draw against Manaless).

Here are the little self-imposed guidelines I'm working with for the multiplayer decks I've been building:
• Must be cheap. Total price tag < $100, preferably < $50. Ideally ~$30. No one card greater than about ~$6
• Format: Modern (makes getting the cards somewhat easier for the play group, and almost all my cards are Modern-legal)
• Must be relatively interesting in 1:1 games. I don't need to win against Splinter Twin, but I should be able to play duels now and then
• Avoid instant-win combos; they only serve to make me target #1, and then the deck is worse than useless because I get killed first, every time
• Must have a funny name!
I would recommend Tuesday Night Legacy at Versus. If I had the time, I would go, but alas. The people there are SUPER friendly and they talk about deck techs all the time.

Thank you! Turns out my best friend lives in the city. However, getting there after work is pretty much a nightmare. LOL 101N is a parking lot. By the time I get out of the gym (6~6:30) the city by 7pm may not be possible. Maybe I can shift some stuff around. How's the turnout at Versus? Does Anime Imports still do Legacy on Sunday? I can't find any info on their site saying that they do.
Hey all! I am super new to legacy and I am currently finishing two decks simultaneously (R.I.P) but I am from the east bay (concord/pittsburg/antioch) and I am willing to drive up to an hour to play in tournaments or just hangout on my days off if possible. My local game store is absolutely trash when it comes to prizes and turnouts, but I am looking to just hit up the legacy scene around here and wanted to see what's up.
I also play modern, but modern isn't as hard to get into around here as legacy. So, just hit me up and maybe we can play!
P.S. I am 4 cards from finishing Legacy Dredge, and 5 cards from finishing Bug Delver.
My modern deck is finished and slightly foiled.
Standard is really dry at the moment, and I dislike limited unless it's modern masters.

From what I can see on their FB page, their crowd is getting bigger and bigger. I wanna go to, but school is getting in the way

East Bay has Galaxy for Legacy, do you not like that store?
Galaxy Games is kinda struggling with Legacy. They got the crowd of Legacy players, and you could easily play Legacy between every round of draft with little effort, but they've been having a hard time finding a day/time that will consistently fire for the format.
Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

Because he's the hero MTGS deserves, and the one it needs right now. So we'll global him. Because he can take it. Because he's not just our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. An expired rascal.

I don't see why they just don't settle on Sunday. What was the issue before?

Damn, bummer.
I haven't even made it out there yet. I heard that was the best place to try and get some legacy games in.
For people in the Bay Area: Please Join us at the Sunday Night San Francisco Casual MTG Players group.
We were at Pizza Orgasmica in the Richmond District for the past few years until they shut down last week.
WE HAVE A NEW LOCATION AND TIME:
The Richmond Republic Draught House
642 Clement St, San Francisco, CA 94118
(415) 702-6069
5pm-Midnight
This location is a mere 2 blocks from Pizza O. We have reserved the upstairs area going forward. Just go inside and go to the back left and go upstairs.
However, our starting time is now 5PM, NOT 4PM.
This is because it's usually crowded there still with folks watching football or other sports. The benefit is that it's open later. It is actually open till midnight. Really.
This place has 24 beers on tap. The beer selection is insane.
This place DOES serve food. You MUST buy some food or drinks to play with us if you possibly can. If you only want a coke, ok, but please please buy some food from the bar. They have great bar food, and most of it is reasonably priced. I think their kitchen is open till 10, but I'll have to check.
I counted 8 tables upstairs. We can move these around as we need to.
There's a pool table there. Please do not sit or put drinks on this table. If you really want to play cards on the pool table, there's no reason not to other than there's actual real tables nearby. They've offered to cover it up for us in the future.
This place DOES allow people under the age of 21. However, NO UNDERAGE DRINKING ALLOWED. If you are caught offering your beer to an underage player, three things will happen:
You WILL be ejected from the group and asked not to return.
We MAY be ejected from the bar/restaurant and asked not to return.
I personally will stack all of your cards on a table and play Landfill on them.
Please don't jeopardize our new great spot by doing something dumb. In short,BEHAVE. Horseplay, running (not that you folks do this), and similar crap won't be tolerated.
To order, go downstairs and order at the bar. They will bring the food to you. No need to wait for a waiter/waitress.
When buying food or a drink, you may start a tab.
See you folks this Sunday at the Richmond Republic Draught House! Pass this along!

We play many different variants of multiplayer magic. Please, no proxies, or very few if at all possible.
We usually play
Duels
Star (sometimes called Pentagonal)
Anti-Star (New format!)
Commander
Tiny Leaders
Emperor
2-Headed Giant (or more!)
Left-right Attack
Assassin
Team variants of each of the above! Crazy fun.
And More!
Hear what others have to say about the Magic meetup!
"It sucks. These guys bring these crazy-ass decks that always beat my tournament-caliber builds."
--Bill
"Don't go. These morons think they know how to play magic, but my legacy goblin deck can kill em all. I just have to remember to bring it next time."
--Bob
"I brought a vintage deck filled with proxy moxes. I won even before my opponents got to take their first turn! How cool is that! Of course, the next game I waited around while everyone destroyed everything i had in quick succession. But that's ok, I had fun!"

If you are looking for websites to help you with deck ideas for casual magic, here are a few that are highly recommended:
MTGSALVATION
Magic Deck Vortex
Essential Magic
Especially check out the combos page...highly useful for breaking things not meant to be broken.
TappedOut
MTG Salvation
Especially check out their rumors forum here. This is where you will find out about upcoming cards and sets and other interesting tidbits.
Hi, I live in San Jose (10 minute drive to Channel Fireball). I'm posting to say "Hi" and introduce myself. I'm currently playing MTG casually (very casually and kind of uncommonly since I'm a student finishing up a degree, and preparing to find work). However, once I have a stable income in a job I'm comfortable in, I'm considering playing more seriously (competitively) with drafts and constructed. Or just have more EDH shenanigans. I enjoy almost every part of the game (except paying money for cards, but I understand it's necessary). I also like the lore and game design philosophy. However, I need to catch up on the story, I'm a few weeks behind.
There isnt any on demand, but there is a legacy event listed each day for all 3 days. I'm playing in the big legacy showdown on Saturday. Might make it out for the Sunday 1:00 one too, but we'll see.
I havnt had a chance to play legacy in a few months. This year, I'd like that to change. Is versus still doing Tuesday legacy? How are the turnouts? How have the turnouts been for the past few weekend monthly events at CFB?
I went 5-3 in legacy on Saturday. Just kind of wandered the hall on Sunday for a couple hours. Picked up an unlimited Timetwister completing my set of power. Picked up an Italian foil dark ritual, bringing my global set to I believe 93/108 (getting really hard to find ones I don't have now!) And picked up a couple things I couldn't pass up. Legacy foil Defense Grid, 2 AQ Hurkyls, Beta Regrowth. Anyone else pick up anything sweet?

Top 8 in Modern on Friday. Picked up a box of modern masters, box of khans of takir, a foil damnation, and several packs of new phyrexia. Plus that promo stoneforge mystic
