I recently purchased a Moat and Plateau (3rd) and am now worried that they may be fakes.
There are several indications which make me suspicious:
1) They are more "glossy" than other Magic-cards that I have no reason to believe should be fake (worthless commons)
2) They have a type of wear that I have never seen on any other Magic-cards. In particular the edges seem almost split, i.e. it looks as if a front and backside had been glued together and then coming slightly apart from each other.
The most alarming things are nevertheless the following two:
3) The blue color of the word "Magic" on the back is quite different than the word on a real card (the left card here is the Moat: https://imgur.com/a/xVmBT)
4) The most alarming feature, in my opinion, is what seems to be a faint print pattern on the skies of both the Plateau and the Moat, see pictures here:
The pattern on the sky of the Plateau-illustration looks like faint white dots arranged in a square-ish pattern. On Moat, there is something similar, but the "dots" are now arranged in vertical stripes. Also, the pixelation is very clear on the Moat-picture: I don't know if this is a good or bad sign.
I would appreciate your comments regarding the authenticity of these cards.
The scans are not good enough for me to be conclusive, but the Moat has some serious questionable features, like the upper beveled edge betwen the black border and the rest. The edge wear is definately pointing to fakes.
If the cards feel slick or plasticy, they are definately fakes.
My gut reaction is that those are pretty bad fakes, but I'm only 95 % certain.
