The official term, as it appears on the product pages for Commander decks, is "oversized." WoTC has a number of full oversized decks that they occasionally break out for certain conventions.
Aren't commander cards ~6" by ~9" or so? These are at least twice that. Also, they are MUCH older than the Commander format, they are from Visions and Tempest.
Maybe, but I don't think so. If I remember correctly they were meant to be used as small posters.
The reason I would like to know is I am trying to sell them and I need to find similar items to get an idea of an asking price. I looked around on EBay and I couldn't find anything close.

If memory serves me correctly, no oversized cards predate the format currently known as Commander which was previously more commonly known, and is often still referred to as "Elder Dragon Highlander". Suffice it to say that while there were no products specifically marketed towards the format's player base for many many years, it has existed since Legends when the original Elder Dragons (among other less viable commanders) were printed.
If I had to guess, the oversized cards you're asking about from the Mirage/Tempest blocks era are Vanguard cards which modify the players' starting life totals and opening/max hand sizes in addition to some other effect. Unsurprisingly, among the nostalgia in my collection I actually still have a few of those left from way back in the day (Squee, Gerrard, Maraxus, and Tahngarth), none of which have been played with since before my ten year hiatus.
Anyhow, the best I can come up with myself is a game in the top 8 of a PTQ back during Urza block in which we were starting game 3 with time already expired, so the tiebreaker rule was that whoever had more life after 3 turns would win. And I lost to... healing salve.
What are the specific card names? I'm looking into it (even called a couple stores about it) and found a bunch of 6" by 9" cards, but nothing 12" by 18".
EDIT:
1997 Tempest Cards:
12"x18" Chronatog Oversized Card
12"x18" Greven il Vec Oversized Card
12"x18" Helm of Possession Oversized Card
12"x18" Magic Card Back Oversized Card
12"x18" Pillar Tombs of Aku Oversized Card
12"x18" Rathi Dragon Oversized Card
12"x18" Relentless Assault Oversized Card
If you contact abubuyer@abugames.com, they may be able to give you a good market price on them.

Wow... I forgot all about these "cards". I have all seven. They're square corner with white backs. They're not cut consistently with two slightly different sizes, about 1/2" give or take. I'm not entirely certain if they're printed differently resulting in the slight size difference.
They are an unbelievable royal PITA to store, borderline stupid really. Posters can be rolled up nicely and stored in cardboard tubes. I had to frame them in IKEA picture frames or sandwiched between large pieces of paper/cardboard. For a time, I tried to find large size sleeves for them but I never had much luck finding anything reasonable and just gave up.
Again, I know this isn't an authentication question, but this forum was the closest I could find.
I have about a half dozen giant magic cards. They are ~12" by ~18". What are these called?
Thanks.

I'm guessing that you are referring to the first link, as mentioned in my previous post.

I appreciate the reference to Abu but I would prefer to find what they are commonly called so I can look up a price in several different places.
Those were the only names I could find for them.
