Hate to be a snitch on a friend, but he sent pictures to me of 4 goyfs he bought at $15/each - from a guy on Craigslist in California. I asked if he could take closer pictures, but that is the best he could do. They pass the light and bend test.
Ok, the assumption is going to be that they are fakes (or stolen) just based on the amount they were purchased for. I honestly don't know if they are not but if he bought them under the pretense that they are real I would suggest he bring them to the highest rated judge that is around and ask if they are authentic and the judge should be able to follow up on authenticity a little better in person. I am sure there are others better versed in spotting fakes and why that might be able to comment here but if they were purchased under the pretense of being legit I would suggest having a judge scope them out and if not forwarding the information of the individual they were bought from to wizards if they are fake.

I have officially moved to MTGNexus. I just wanted to let people know as my response time to salvation decks being bumped is very hit or miss.
At that point I guess the real question is how to authenticate them as fake so that nobody gets a surprise fake. I don't have any good suggestions but I also have little knowledge on this front.

Those are rather poor quality, both based on the text being dithered (and offset from itself) and because the dot patterns shouldn't have visible straight lines in them at this distance/resolution (see right side of the green frame for best viewing of this.) There's less than no chance of those being real.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
There were some fake shocklands that looked similar to these that circulated at our LGS. Most seemed to be off in size (especially with the printed area in relation to the card size -- note the wider than normal black boarders) and flimsier than normal cards. If these are the same, they would not pass close personal inspection.
One concerning aspect is that the ones I saw *did* pass the blue line test and *failed* the light test (the "shine light from behind the card" light test, not the blacklight test).
As mentioned by others, the printing was also clearly not the same as real cards when evaluating the dot pattern.
Just got to say, you've definitely earned distinction as an MTGS hero

Because he's the hero MTGS deserves, and the one it needs right now. So we'll global him. Because he can take it. Because he's not just our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. An expired rascal.
