Hi, I've enjoyed this site for a couple years now and I hope to continue enjoying it in the future. This being said I'm a little confused why a second site is still going ahead if this site is staying around. I read in a comment on the 'A New and Exciting Beginning' article that the split isn't due to drama, but if it isn't, then why the split? What will be the benefit of having two sites exactly? Like I would likely use both sites if I find there is value for me, but why split at all? If the only reason is people are moving to a new site, why are they moving? Will there be additional features on this new site that isn't offered here? Do some people really hate the UI of this site? Is it just that those working on the new site started working on it and want to see it to completion even if doing so will split the community? Just looking for some insight here as to why the split is occurring and/or what the benefits and downsides of each site would be so I can better determine which one might be most useful for different purposes (e.g. Commander more on one site while the other focuses on Modern or one site will be more lax with restricting necro threads or one site will allow spoilers).

There are couple reasons for me. First, the staff is moving. A number of them are people who I've interacted with for years and who I know have the best interests of the community in mind. I don't know what the replacement staff here is going to be like, so I'm going with the known quantity. Feyd's also posted about what he's doing with tags on the new site and it looks like there's going to be some significant improvements.
The second thing follows from that. Curse bought the site years ago and there was lots of talk about how it was going to improve things. In that time, basically nothing materialized. There's presumably some under the hood stuff and a deckbuilder (which I don't use anyways), but I haven't seen much. There have also been some changes that I didn't like. The site was initially being sold instead of shut down at least in part because there's enough weird code under the hood that Curse didn't think a new owner would be able to handle it (or because of proprietary code, or something else along those lines - I'm a regular user without any particular insight here). The new owner also appears to have created the company in response to various Curse sites shutting down. My understanding is that it's the creator/former owner of one of the others. Their own site had almost nothing on it aside from links to a few of the former Curse sites day of the announcement, which doesn't exactly fill me with hope that they're going to be good stewards of this site.

I echo Weebo's thoughts as well. When the announcement came out I thought "well this sucks" and then immediately looked forward to the new site. The announcement of this site staying open didn't really matter as I already looked forward to leaving. As Weebo mentioned, the staff here, that are moving over, seem to be very competent and transparent (see that entire thread mentioned above) whereas we have heard basically nothing from the new owners from what I have seen. Enough has happened that it seems like it would be in the new owner's best interests to indicate their thoughts about the future of this site. I know they likely have a lot on their plate, so it might be unreasonable, but silence does not instill confidence.
Since MTG Nexus seems to be somewhere that the owner(s) and mods will be actively engaged, just based on their engagement here, I am more than willing to move over there.
For me, there is also the idea of starting over new which I like the sound of.
Interesting question. Fresh starts are typically welcomed, as content creators, UI developers, members and staff can take what was learned over the span of the old site's life and apply that learned info on a new platform.
A lot of small questions will come up regarding features from here and when and how will they be implemented. I hope to see a trade system (cross compatible w/ Puca Trade files or the like would vastly speed up profile creation). Also hope a Holiday Gift Exchange comes back (if both sites host, will just have to split up my 4 - 6 cards I make).
Noticed this post got some attention right away, yet my post from last week still has zero responses about the new site... even if it isn't up or the name is still unknown, that is useful info. I hoping for a known time line, that's all. Really.
Had zero problems with any of the staff. And at some point some of them had helped me in some way.. rules questions, correction of mispelled threads, etc. If they're moving to a new site. Then I'm going over there too.
Will be more active in the new site, but would still keep my account here semi-active.. because there's a primer that I'm taking care of.
Most of my interactions with staff have been neutral to positive, though I do take issue with the way infractions are handed out sometimes. Having said that, they work really hard at improving this community and thus the MtG community as a whole. If they're going to leave en masse, I have hard time believing that the void will be filled by people who are even half as dedicated. I won't abandon Sally immediately, but if things shake out like I think they will, Nexus will be my new MtG home.
