So, according to this article on Salvation's marquis, the site was sold to a company called Magic Find, and will not be closing down. First to comment was Wildfire393, saying that they're still moving forward with the new site, dubbed MTGNexus.
This whole thing seems a lot more complicated now. Personally, I'm grateful for the staff's effort to save this community by investing the time to create and perfect MTGNexus, but...is it necessary now? I know this announcement is only hours old, but...what's going to happen? Is the entire staff still behind the new site? Do any community members have an idea as to what they're going to do?
Thoughts?

In all honesty I’ll probably check out both sites. I’ll definitely come back here for archival info and to see how it precedes. At the same time the content creators that are leaving should be worth following.
It’s not like you cannot visit multiple sites. And if one place lags I’ll drop it. I used to frequent NGA, but don’t spend any time there currently.
I hate to see this site break up, but c’est la vie. I still miss the official WOTC forums, but life goes on.
So here’s where it’s at for me. The announcement yesterday came out of the blue, and I was frankly pretty surprised. I imagine we all were. It definitely made me rethink my plans. MTGSal has been a great place for me, I’ve made friends, learned a ton about the game and how to play it better, and it’s mostly been a great time.
All that being said, a lot of the friends I have made are making the trip. To me, what makes any community great is the people who are in it and what they put in. I sincerely hope that the future owners and mods continue to look after salvation as a community, the way it has been under the current staff/mods/admin. But for me knowing that these current staff are moving on is a deal breaker. The forums I mostly frequent in EDH have led me to get to know some of the fantastic people who look after us, like Cryogen, Airithne, Feyd, Wildfire, Benjameenbear and so on. Knowing how much they’re looking forward to the move and how much they believe in it speaks volumes to me.
I will likely still be here as a spectator to some degree, but I am also looking forward to a fresh start and a new beginning, and I know the staff that are moving are really excited about their new site too.
So I'm confused now. MTGS is saved but its people are still moving? So either we have two sites with lower activity due to the split, or one that will take over or never kick in. Time will tell?
Something just occurred to me. Did Magic Find or Curse bother to check out Salvation before buying or selling, respectively? The 'The End of an Era' article is featured prominently, and there are numerous active threads discussing Salvation's closure and the subsequent migration to what we now know as MTG Nexus. What I'm really wondering is if Magic Find knew they were buying a car with no engine.

Who knows but sonetimes you do buy a car without an engine if you already have one to install into it. Will this site lose its V6 engine to be replaced by an anemic Inline 4 or will it get a turbocharged V8. Time will tell I suppose.

STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.
Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
From what I've learned searching the forums, this looks like a cluster____. I'm very confused as to why the staff decided to build a new website when this one works perfectly well. So was it the owner of the MTGSalvation site who decided to close it? Cryogen made a post about the staff wanting to buy the site and keep it open, then they couldn't, then someone else could? I barely heard any whispers about this just a couple of days ago.
Anyway, that's really beside the point. I completely agree that the new site seems unnecessary. There are years of history and countless hours spent developing all of the amazing content already available on this site. I went to mtgnexus.com and there was basically nothing going on in the standard forum at all. The only reason I heard about/considered nexus was because a couple of my favorite members have been saying they will transition to the new site. However, all the great content/answers/ideas that have come from them are on THIS site.
I think the new website will just dilute out some of the great content that used to be added here. Personally, I don't want to make 2 accounts in order to post things/check in on things. My internet is slow as a snail and adding on extra accounts, especially for a site with very few people/threads on it just doesn't seem appealing. Also, this site has a deck builder, but the other doesn't?
It just seems that salvation is superior in every way right now. At the same time, I'm confused and sad as to why the staff started this new site. I want to hang out with all usual friends that used to be found here. I want to remain loyal to the people who started this amazing site. At the same time, salvation still seems better to me.
I wish this site would close, or the new one just be shut down and fold the staff back here in their old jobs. If this site was good enough to keep open and running, why was there a need to start another one?
Well, it appears the staff tried to buy the site and couldn't for some reason. So it was announced it would close, the staff started developing a new site so people could transition. Then, surprise! The site was sold to some other company. Nexus staff see their site as superior (and it does have some pretty cool tools I just checked out) but, they don't have the mass of people on their site as it just opened. Considering I hardly heard about this transition, I'm sure many here haven't either.

I agree for the most part, but I would say that they weren't as adept at controlling the subtle and consistent trolling for some users here. One user particularly comes in mind who I know has regularly posted in a way that should have earned them warnings or suspensions, but the staff was not quick enough to act or said that the posts were "too old" to act on (1.5 months in the past in one case) once notified. So the message was basically - Troll, insult, condescend, etc. and if you're not caught in 1.5 months then you'll get away scott free! Didn't know such a short statute of limitations action applied to vile behavior. Interesting.
Having said that, I'm looking forward to the new staff doing an exponentially better job in this area. If not, then I guess people will have to put up with the same stuff at MTGNexus. So here's to hoping MTGSalvation fixes this and does a great job in the future.
That’s been a constant issue on this site/ I spent my time calling it out, then decided not tonspoiling anything anymore because of the mods tolerance towards the awful behavior on here.

Anyone else have thoughts or desire to transition to nexus? I made an account just so I could secure my name at least.
