So I opened the first pair of booster boxes I've opened in years to satiate my nostalgia like a man drinking deep from the tankards, and I was just wondering what bulk cards people pulled from their boxes, FNM, and pre-releases. I just find it fascinating that we all know what the top rares are from staring at the top of TCG player, but then there are these things that seem like they just shouldn't be rares, and we have no conscious recognition that they even exist in the set. Case in point, Hatchery Spider. I think the other one I didn't realize existed was Erratic Cyclops and I almost forgot that Camaraderie was a thing.
Also, lucked out on the spin down with the fat pack unfortunately. While I did get two Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice, I ended up getting a Boros spin down. Is this what it feels like to be conscripted by Boros? Oh, and by luck I also had pulled Tajic, blade of the Legion in the same box. I guess I had a boros fat pack?

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Yeah, those are actually pretty good. I could see Camaraderie being a thing in Commander. Specifically, tokens. Shamanic Revelation exists, but Camaraderie is more likely to give you a buttload of life if you're playing tokens. (Though, with Collective Blessing or Cathars' Crusade or Coat of Arms or Mirror Entity or just a bunch of anthems in general, you can get more life off Revelation. Regardless, the Morale to go with it adds to "CU gravy".)
Erratic Cyclops only needs a way to switch its P/T and give it +1/+0 and first strike to make it good.
Hatchery Spider is a 5/7 body with reach for seven mana, but if you have a lot of creatures in your graveyard, it can get pretty ridic pretty fast.
Aurelia's actually pretty good. We're talking a 2/5 with flying and mentor who can make herself a 4/5 with flying, vigilance, trample, and mentor, for four mana. (And yes, this means she can be both a mentor and a student of the same creature.) She's not as good as her original form, but not every legend needs to go infinite.
This is why I occasionally buy a box, by the way. I get to see all these hidden gems people forget existed immediately after they're done playing limited.
Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
Naturally you lose value when buying packs, but the rate of cards that are at least interesting or playable in GRN is pretty good. Hatchery Spider and Camaraderie are both heading for gold in EDH and Cyclops is a Johnny-Timmy beater.

On phasing:
Like Hatchery Spider is going right into my Goreclaw Commander deck. He works really well there.
Camaraderie is, likewise, going to be popular in EDH.
Erratic Cyclops... Yeah, actually very much playable in EDH.
