Looking ahead at GP London: If you'd bought a constructed fanatic package for 10 events, they will have cancelled it. You will now only be registered for 6, and they will have refunded the cost difference.
Apparently, despite shortening their events, running more of them and reducing the prizes-per-event, you still won't be physically able to attend more than 2 events per day.
This is direct from their staff; they've had issues with delays, events overlapping and people being angry that they can't physically attend 10 events in the weekend (making the package some kind of impossible feat). Apparently trying to attend three per day just won't happen.
So then we're left with the same old 2 events per day that we've seen basically forever, except the prizes are worse and there's less actual rounds of play.
Seems.... Unfortunate.

I'd compared the upcoming team GP with one I did last year and the prizes for the last chance trial side event at another upcoming GP with one I did last month. It basically came down to a $75 price increase for the team event; it was $225 for all 3 players with 3 playmats if registering early and now it's $80 per person with a $15-60 upgrade to 1-3 playmats depending on if you bought them early or onsite. The four round(previously five round) last chance trial had 100 fewer prize tickets for the top two players; before the top 2 already had 300 tickets and were playing strictly for the byes. Now the top two have 200 tickets and play for two round byes and 100 tickets, not to mention prize reductions to 16 players when there were 32.
This is just from what I remember from my most recent events and hasn't considered the entry cost for all the side events or even the cost of main event entry across formats. I figured there would be noticeable increases once we got to the CFB monopoly year so we'll get to look forward to what they charge by December.
Those are some noticeable increases I have to say.
I wasn't particularly worried by a potential monopoly of the GP event circuit but now it's perhaps becoming clear that if you want to attend these events you will have to pay whether premium they slap on top, because nobody else is competing with them on price. Hmmmmmmmm
There's the "vote with your feet" idea but irritatingly these are the largest events in the calendar and happen so rarely where I live that if I wanted to attend any larger events of this kind that's essentially my only option. Derp
