Yes Urza is "dead" he died when his eyes where ripped from his head and placed into Karn. Much like when he died when Radiant killed him by ripped his eyes out in the books.... then she put the might and weak stones back together and bringing him back to life. Both stones are in Karn. Reunite stones for some reason then boom!
Please discuss the up coming set and possibilities. I'm more interested in if he did comeback what you want to see is impact in the story be. Would he return? Would the new set have references to him?
When Urza died during the legacy weapon activation, his spark transferred into Karn, which made Karn a planeswalker, and thus made Urza not a planeswalker, and so truly mortal. Then, during the Time Spiral story, Karn used Urza's spark to seal one of the rifts, destroying it. I think that Urza is well and truly dead-dead at this point.
I expect that there will be some nod to him in the upcoming set though. He was such a huge part of the story, and it's been so long since we've gone back to his old stomping grounds to see what's up. The thing is, he was never social with the general populace, all of his planeswalker companions have died, all his old enemies have been defeated, and his Metathran people are extinct. I don't know that there's anyone around that will even remember him as a person other than Karn. He'll be some sort of mythical figure from old stories, maybe even deified by his role in saving the world from the Phyrexians. And he produced many grand artifacts, some of which must still exist, if only in ruins, so tangible evidence would be present for the modern day peoples, just as there is tangible evidence of his greatest foe, Yawgmoth, is the form of the tainted Urborg and the phyrexian wreckage all over the world.
I think there will be some sort of organized following of Urza on Dominaria, trying to recapture the genius of his artifacts, but without the knowledge or skill to fully re-create his greatest achievements (like Karn and the Weatherlight).
Valid point. I think if WoC wanted him to come back their creative team could make it work. Of course that raises the question as to why would they. There would have to me some profit in it for them.
I think Jhoira is still around isn't she? A story arc with her, Karn, and reference to Urza would be neat.
I'd be happy with a nod to Urza like you said and think WoC should absolutly talk about Dominarias past. New players only know Urza and Mishra from Dominaria's discription on the MTG website...
Some reprints with new art of some of his Artifacts would be nice. Maybe Urza's Armor in a display at the Academy at Tolaria West or something. I'd be extremely happy if they released new cards of some of his creations that never had prints. Like some of his staffs or the Screaming Spiders and Falcon Engines from the books.
The Academy at Tolaria West.... looking forward to this. Why? I refuse to think that there is no one on Dominaria who isn't aware of the multiversal and planeswalkers. If there was anyplace that would research that concept I think the Academy at Tolaria West would be that place and I think that would be very intriguing. I also think this is where the Urza tie in for a story could take place.

The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.

I was talking about the Academy at Tolaria West. Different place. https://mtg.gamepedia.com/Tolaria_West
Tolaria West was built after everything that you described, and Academy Ruins depicts the ruins of the original Tolarian Academy, not the rebuilt Tolaria West.
