First, I should apologize. This is a post I should have made months ago. Basically, a few months ago I realized that with the pressures of work and family, I wouldn’t be able to continue making comics. But I really wanted to make one last comic to finish things up. The problem was, even though I kept telling myself that’s what I would do, I could never find the time. Soon days became weeks and weeks became months, and still no comic. I just kept delaying the inevitable, and the longer I waited the harder I found it to make this post. It got so bad that I even stopped reading my email and messages because I couldn’t bare to make this post.
So here I am now, ripping off the band-aid, and letting you know that I’m going to stop these comics for the foreseeable future.
Thank you to everyone that has supported these comics over the years. I was amazed at all the attention Cardboard Crack got pretty quickly once I started drawing it. Your words of encouragement and generosity were always appreciated. The Magic community is special and unique in many ways, and I’m happy that I could say that I was able to play a small part in it for a few years.
Even though I won’t be making comics any time soon, I still hope to help design some animated tokens from time to time because they’re just so fun to do. Be sure to check out our current Amonkhet tokens (including the Cat Token below) and hopefully we’ll have Ixalan tokens ready soon.
Thanks again for all your support, and sorry again for not making this post sooner.
I'm sad to hear about the hiatus. I like Cardboard Crack! They're charming little comics about the world's best trading card game. Well, maybe sometime in the future, the creator will be able to resume. At least, I hope so! He really knew how Magic players act and what they think and want, and it was funny and almost eerily accurate.

Cardboard crack is bad art in a visual medium. To make up for this you need REALLY good jokes or a REALLY engaging story. They had neither. Take Special Delivery, for example. The first three panels are barely distinguishable from each other, making it hard to determine that these are different mail boxes. Then in the fourth panel he's contradicting the joke. No, you don't work for him we just saw you delivering mail. Next, has the author ever used a mailbox before? The flag? It's up in all three panels, even the one where there is no mail. So look inside the mailbox, mail guy! There's a fundamental rule here called "show don't tell" where if you shouldn't have to use words to explain the action. Here's a good example. This comic is all about being told and not being shown. For example, if you take away the words is there any way to tell if the mailman is delivering or picking up mail?
It's also poorly laid out. Anyways, I took a stab at re-writing it. Tell me this isn't better?
I would firmly disagree. Cardboard crack was not elegant, not extremely witty in the writing and very simplistic, but it took an aspect of magic each time and presented it in a way that could give you a laugh. If you take it too serious, you're never going to laugh, but one of the card shops included a cardboard crack sketch in it's email each week. I didn't care for the advertising, but I made sure to scroll through whole message each time just to get the comic.

What specifically are you disagreeing with? I am assuming this was about my post since I got a notification.
Are comics not a visual medium?
Is CBK not overloaded with words?
Is CBK not guilty of telling instead of showing?
Is the art of CBK not bad?
Compare this to something like XKCD. Each are, fundamentally, stick figure comics but only one uses the medium visually, and only one has good writing. Is CBK good simply because it is a comic about MtG and it's the only one f it's kind in this regard so you give it a pass for its many failings?
Anyways, I took a stab at re-writing it. Tell me this isn't better?
Frankly, it's not. Don't get me wrong, I agree that the comics tend to use a bit too much text, but your attempt at an improvement took the simplification too far (you should have kept the postman's text in the delivery panel - then we might be talking imo).
However, I wouldn't call Cardboard Crack the pinnacle of webcomics, but for me it was entertaining enough to check the site every now and then and it gave me at least a grin quite often. So, kinda sad to see them go.

Really sad to see this era end.
Agreed.

Yes, humor is relative, and while I did enjoy them, how can you derive pleasure from seeing someone not have time to do the things they like?
