So lately to me it seems whenever Wizards introduces a new planeswalker odds are it is a female planeswalker.
In the current standard 9 out of 17 planeswalkers are female and three of the new characters are female (Saheeli, Arlin and Samut) while there is only one new male (Dovin Baan) planeswalker and in ixalan you have Huatli.
Favoring women also doesn't just stop with planeswalkers but many of the non-monster/god legendary creatures is female.
Wizards is aware of gender and originally was massively imbalanced. The current trend is them going for balance. So, they might be but they are trying to keep things balanced.
Um, Male planeswalkers do outnumber female planeswalkers. There are 20 planeswalker subtypes attached to male characters (Angrath will be the 21st in Rivals), and Huatli will be the 15th subtype attached to a female planeswalker. Karn and Ashiok do not have genders, the former being a construct and the latter being an enigma.
I'm not even getting into how females in Magic stories were treated in older sets. Most of the women in the Weatherlight Saga basically existed to be killed off.
I honestly don't know why you're freaking out in the first place.
I hear that the Eldrazi are also all secretly female too. Super-secret females that don't need males to breed. Just wait until the next brood comes to maturity... you think Emrakuls have been bad? You ain't seen ***** yet!
And Jace is actually ts identifying as male which is why Lily likes him, because she's bi.

I sincerely hope i haven't offended anyone through my own ignorance. This thread was just too ridiculous for me to pass on the opportunity to add to it.
I thought i might be wandering into a thread about actual sexism in the workplace or selling sexism in the marketplace, but thank gogs no. So i have only one more thing to add...
There was that one worldbuilding panel where they said that they defaulted to Angles being female amd demons being male because its okay to beat up on men.
(That was said but he was clearly joking chill out.)
I don't see an issue. I like women more than men too.
Who knows? The word "sexist" has little-to-no meaning nowadays besides being a politically-loaded epithet.
As for WotC's emphasis on female characters, it's just your typical megacorp diversity nonsense. A generation of marketing workers have been taught, erroneously, that if you represent, in the most superficial way, they will come. Because a game that is designed to appeal to young men is suddenly going to pull in women if you put people that look like what 40-50 year old (male) dorks from Seattle think women aspire to. Great strategy.
And gee, is it superficial. Look at characters like Samut, Kaya, Arlinn, or Vraska. Not only are they are shallow, one-note characters, but none of them have any anything in the way of essentially feminine characteristics besides their bodies. You could sex-swap them and there would be no dissonance, no awkwardness whatsoever.
Would it be interesting to see good, women characters? Of course. But I don't expect it from a game about taking control of lands and creatures to kill people. That's about as masculine as you can get, and pretty much excludes and semblance of femininity.

Couldn't agree more. Even when reading the Magic's stories, the sense I get is that after the story is finished, someone gender check balances it and just changes male characters to female characters, and the end result is it all feels fake.

Well in the end pretty much EVERYONE in the weatherlight story somehow died a terrible death.
So thats hardly sexist at all.

Since Kaladesh they try to do 2 Planeswalkers in each set.
And chances are that these are male and female, so its balanced.
For me it feels forced to do so and produces a bunch of "replacement" characters that are just the gender because the sake of it, so its more damaging than its good, but some people clearly care too much for it and all have to endure that.
Magic has 5 colors, so chances are there will always be some kind of imbalance unless they introduce more genderless planeswalkers.
That's not Wizards being sexist, it's the problem with emancipation in socierty today. It went from "equal opportunities and/or free choice for [insert group of choice here]" which is fine, to "equal statistical outcomes between [insert group here] and [insert group with largest common denominator here] when it comes to [put subject of choice here]. And the latter is just straight out bullpoo. As if there are no differences between people that lead to different outcomes in different situations.

Do you have an issue with misrepresented genders, or just when female characters are slightly (53% female vs 47% male) more prevalent?
Did you have an issue with this during RTR block when there was one female walker and 4 male? What about Tarkir where the same thing happened?
And Jace is actually ts identifying as male which is why Lily likes him, because she's bi.
