I've been building a multiplayer cube and I've come to realise I don't have a great amount of counters and tokens for various cards be it to keep track of red mana battery or wither effects etc ...
I'm wondering what everyone uses for a cheap efficent source of counters or tokens. I know glass beads are cheap/popular but I can't seem to find them in England.
For counters of any kind, I use dice, usually d6. A 6-sided die can stand for up to 6 counters, and it isn't likely to topple over, unlike a d20. For more than 6 counters, I just add another die. If different kinds of counters have to go on the same card, I use differently colored die and also put them on different parts of the card. I've never yet encountered a game, where more than two different kinds were present on an object at the same time, so there's little risk of confusion.
For tokens, I used to use dice, too, with the number on the die showing the power of a creature token. It's still a reasonably useful method in a pinch, but for creature tokens I have switched to simply using some face down unsleeved basic lands instead to differentiate them from the sleeved cards in the deck. For noncreature tokens, I use a single token card (like Clues or the upcomming Treasure tokens), and simply place a die on it showing the number of those tokens. For a recent deck of mine, which makes token copies of creatures, I actually went to the effort of printing some of the more likely creatures to be copied from my deck on some sheets of paper and slipped those into differently colored sleeves with basic lands as backing for stability.
I like d10's. With three d10'a, i can count up to 999.
Pokemon beads work well. You can score utile beads from a variety of different board games, too. Pente, Mancala, and Go all come immediately to mind. I think my LGS sells 100 counts of various colors for us$5-10 iirc, though i've used nothing but dice for many years now.

They just couldn't put 7th edition into Modern because of the card borders? Seriously? Count me out.
Thanks for the replies, not really looking for dice as in my experience they tend to get knocked. Plus I am a fan of the old duelist challenge which had those beads of each colour (mainly for watching mana batteries).
As I saw various american posts about dollar stores selling those kinds of thing I was wondering if any uk mtg players had seen similar in our £ stores?

Any help?

You can make tokens out of anything or just print out some official ones.
Selling some cards I don't want.
Generally less than tcg mid.
