Friend brand new to magic.. doesn't even really play yet just collects. Buys like 3 amonkhet packs randomly. Opens Damnation invocation and nicol bolas. Hes up so hes feeling great and I tell him it aint gonna happen again, tell him the odds etc. He buys a box of Kaladesh on a whim.
Not joking this is what was in this box. Chandra, Torrential Gearhulk, UR BG UG dual lands, SOL RING Masterpiece, Smugglers copter, aetherworks marvel... just an insane box(albeit not as good as it would have been right after the PT). Box was great and he just finds a 200 dollar bill in it... unreal.
I need to get this guy to split on a modern masters or iconic masters box with me..
I've probably had more than my fair share of "god packs," but the best was a pack of SOI with a playset of Nahiri, the Harbinger, including a foil. No uncommons and no werewolf, but i wasn't complaining.

They just couldn't put 7th edition into Modern because of the card borders? Seriously? Count me out.
pucatrade
big receipts
alpha mox emerald
beta time walk
4 goyfs received
3 liliana of the veil
4 karn liberated
3 force of will
4 grove of the burnwillows
snapcaster mage
3 horizon canopy
2 full art damnation
This was probably the luckiest thing that has ever happened to me magic wise. When MM17 came out i ordered 1 box because I just couldn't resist. After ordering it, I told my friend that I would for sure be opening a foil Liliana of the Veil. (obviously i was just joking) So the box arrives in the mail and I opened it. Lo and behold, there was a foil Lili in one of the packs. It was also a fire box with 5 mythics in it.

My brother seems to be the luckiest one of my group when it comes to these things, with the exception of our Aether Revolt draft. At the Kaladesh prerelease, he got Nissa as his promo and both Saheeli and Rashmi among the packs, and he later bought one Shadows over Innistrad pack and got Arlinn. The only time I've ever been even slightly lucky with my booster pack pulls is getting a Verdurous Gearhulk out of an AER booster that I got on a whim when we were all at Barnes and Noble and getting a Torrential Gearhulk out of a Kaladesh box that I bought recently. I don't believe in fate or destiny or any of that kind of stuff, but I'm kind of afraid to try buying any Masters packs, though I might get some Masters 25 if it's good enough.
At Target with my son. See 3 lonely Eldritch Moon packs hanging on the rack. Pull them off and decide on the Liliana artwork pack as that is the card I want and never pulled when it was out and don't feel like ponying up 20+ bucks for a copy. Put the other 2 back on the rack. Rip open the outer package to reveal a Lily mylar rapper. Destiny? So what do you think I pulled?
Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)

...Okay, he just got three booster packs today, one each from KLD, AKH, and HOU, and he got two mythics, including a Chandra, Torch of Defiance. Seriously.
I haven't had a lot of great packs, but last night I was playing Modern at my LGS, my opponent had me dead to rights, there was no way I should have had a chance, I forget the exact board state, but the only possible way I could have one was a Bolt off the top, two turns in a row, and my opponent not having immediate answers. Nothing but Bolt off the top both turns could have helped me.....and that's exactly what happened. Squeaked it out at 3 life, no blockers, and him representing 12 damage the following turn.
Obviously he's going to have a equally crazy win against me next week

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
I won two prize packs at the Battle for Zendikar pre-release. One of them had expedition Bloodstained Mire. That was two years ago, and I'm still giddy over it And though it was more coincidence than luck, I went to a MM2 sealed pool event, and one of my packs had the Karn art on it. I joked that what if the pack had a foil Karn Liberated? And it did!!!

Some of you guys are probably bored of my posts (I think I've posted this here around 5 times), but here goes.
My brother and I started playing when Revised had just come out. He actually got me started. We probably opened around 5 boxes total, which is the most I've ever opened since. One of our Revised boxes was the "god box." It had no commons and only consisted of rares and uncommons. I can't remember the exact number. The odd part is that we still opened only 1 Shivan Dragon. We opened up a lot of Laces, which were the worst rares at the time, but we also opened a LOT of dual lands. Yeah, Underground Sea! Even at that time, we knew they were good cards because they opened up your options for deckbuilding, allowed for bluffing, and had no drawback at all.
Many, many years later after I started up on Magic again (during Tempest), I opened another "god box" I believe. It was Prophecy and had the right number of rares, uncommons, and commons. But our box had a LOT of Avatars, including 6 Avatar of Woe, the chase rare at $18 at the time. I think the Red one and the Green one only had 1 of each, but all the rest had multiples. I think the White one had 2 and the Blue one had 4. Really odd box, but I'm certainly NOT complaining.
*Also, after playing a lot of Limited and not opening a Mythic ever at the time, I opened up Jace, the Mind Sculptor in a Booster Draft from just 3 packs. First Mythic, whoop, whoop! My 2nd Mythic ever opened ended up being Gideon Jura, a $45 card at the time. This was also in a Booster Draft. No joke! FWIW, I only went 2-1 with JTMS, but 3-0 with Gideon.

Back when I was still at the shop I used to own/run the magic singles/older sealed product at, and where I would help run and judge the events, a friend of mine decided to play in a booster draft. He didn't do it all that often, but had time and decided to give it a shot. In this case it was the release draft for Scars of Mirrodin. Koth of the Hammer was the big planeswalker hotness at the time for the set, I think koth was something like $40, and the foil was, well I'm not even sure, probably $70-$80. Anyhow, everyone gets their packs, and my friend goes to open his first pack, and says, I'm going to open a foil Koth, you just watch. I see him open the sealed pack that he had been given from a fresh box and sure enough, he just starts busting up, and sets down a foil koth from the pack to the amazement of everyone. Not only that, but the person next to him (a kid who loved angels and artifacts especially), ends up opening a foil indomitable archangel, and a regular koth. The kid saw the foil angel and immediately grabbed that, and passed the pack (basically the kid got the exact card he wanted and in foil no less), and thusly my friend got a regular koth on top of the foil one. I mean, seriously. He called his first pack opening of the foil koth, and then gets passed another. What are the odds? (And yes, that means that box had 2 foil mythics in it). We did ask the kid after if he knew how much koth was worth, and the kid said yeah, but the foil angel was the card he wanted, so he didn't care about passing the koth. Hard to argue with that.
I remember the first card i ever drafted at a sanctioned event was a Cryptic Command. I wound up with a foil Mad Auntie that day too. Still not as cool as 4 Nahiris, but at the time it was my luckiest moment.
Or maybe it was when i got Rufus Joe to trade me a HP Library of Alexandria for the gold-bordered Finkel's Tinker World Championship deck. I showed him the Beckett (i had one on me at the time) and explained that he could just go buy the Tinker deck for us$15, but god bless alcohol, he was adamant that he wanted that trade.
ETA: I even offered to trade back the next day after he sobered up but he refused.

Grand Prix DC 2004. Team "369 a Pack" came in 5th overall and won $1500 as a team. One of the team members won 1 match the entire tournament. They had 2 byes to start the tournament - so he won $500 for going 1-8 in matches that he actually played.

Sweet.
One pack, one pull. Doesn't happen often but it does happen. Got a foil flip common in the pack as well but who cares.
