If Hasbro, with its paid professional staff and actual market data, thinks leaks hurt their sales, I'll trust them over armchair speculators with anecdotal support.
But as a customer, I want to have as much information as I can about what is and will be on the market. I'm not overly sympathetic to the corporation complaining that I don't listen to their sales pitch.
I appreciate Hasbro has to make a profit to keep making this game, but I'm only as interested in buying their cards as the cards are worth playing once the polish and the hype has worn down.
I feel like leaks actually helped wizards with Ixalan. It forced them to have to showcase more common and uncommon cards, which for older sets would have been bad, but because they pushed more playable commons and uncommon cards it is working in their favor.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!

But they didn't make better commons and uncommons because of the leaks. Maybe it's working in their favor, but that's most likely a coincidence. You can't really say that it helped them out, because you can't say for sure that the excitement for the set wouldn't have been just as high or higher if the leaks hadn't happened. Arguably, with better commons and uncommons in the "last days of spoilers dump", the post-spoiler season disappointment that inevitably kicks in every time would have been lower.
I hope they don't fall back to their old formula with Rivals though. Getting a good deal of common and uncommon spoilers every day is strangely refreshing because expectations for them are not that high. Some people (especially on the internet) really get mad at bad rares and mythics, but I've yet to see a person up in arms about a few sub-par common/uncommon spoilers.

And I never said that they did make better commons and uncommons because of the leaks. I'm saying that it forced them to showcase the uncommons and commons, which actually matter a lot more than they seem to actively realize. Before, they mostly spoiled rares and mythics, which are not the bread and butter of most peoples decks when playing FNM or limited the majority of the time.

Everyone here should spam Blogatog and any possible way to contact Wizards to let them know that this way of doing spoilers was much more enjoyable.

Heck yes, though maybe not spam it to the point of causing the site to crash. That might be a bit much...

The leak did indeed help WotC at least in my city. NOBODY cares about Hour of Devastation save people building decks for the bug gods. But a lot of people, including people who were on the brink of dropping standard with the rotation, are exited about Ixalan.
I myself wouldn't have gone out of my way to buy the Vampire C17 deck day one if I didn't know for a fact there were vampires in Ixalan.

Not sure if it was us, or if it was the general Magic comminuty, but Maro has stated they're changing the way they do spoilers due to the positive reception for this spoiler season!

I've been really enjoying this spoiler season. Seeing so many commons and uncommons get spoiled gives a nice view of the world and themes, like a puzzle is slowly coming together. This is much more enjoyable to me than the usual spoiler season heavily tilted towards rares.
We’ve gotten this comment a lot and are going to adjust future previews accordingly
On topic, some pf ypu have valid points about leaks only hurting bad products, but I was also referring to leaks creating undue animosity towards Wizards because people don't understand the changes that have been made.
I do understand that leaks can be helpful, the spoiler season will be chamging for the better due to the Ixalan leaks, but I still think leaks are bad.

What is bad is sets, cards (especially non-creature spells) and archetypes (e.g. storm, control, etc.) getting progressively weaker over time.

if the Ixilan leaks happened at the end of August, it would not have been a big deal.
The Leak happening before Hour was huge because it killed Hype for Hour AND dampened hype for Ixilan in September.
