Ok people so I'm definitely new here and have been out of the game for a very long time. I played from just before Mirage until right after Mercadian Masques and have been looking to get back in.
Currently I've been reading into buying a good booster box and having fun. I'm looking to spend around $100-200(US) I'm trying to ask what box I should get for of course best card value ( in the game itself and yeah money wise be nice too) any help on this would be awesome.
Are you talking in Standard? I would say possibly Kaladesh considering the fastlands and Chandra, along with other cards are holding some sort of value. It also has a shot at the Masterpieces.
To be fair, you're not looking at much value. I would just choose what looks interesting.
I'm sure you know it, but booster boxes aren't a good buy financially. if you are looking at Standard sets, I would say Kaladesh, it is by far my favorite recent set. if you are looking for Modern or a better draft, $200 could get you a box of Modern Masters 2017. twice the price of a Standard box, but you will pull a lot more value, have more relevant cards to play with, and I don't like Draft, but doing it with that box was a lot of fun

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
Thanks for the replies! I wasn't more focused on the money aspect as you've said opening booster boxes isn't best way to make money. Definitely more leaning towards the best sets I can get at those prices in general and of course to play with. Most likely leaning towards standard
An other recommendations? I bought a booster box of kaladesh and a 10 pack bundle of the same. Still have money to spend towards more booster boxes and stuff.
Right now prices are so low on just about all the singles outside of a few that you can pretty much build anything you want for the price of booster boxes. There is always the chance for inventions in Kaladesh and Aether Revolt, but I guess I'd probably put the money into building a deck first. At least if the intent is standard.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
In principle i'd agree with that, especially because of the first statement about current pricing. Wading into the singles market as a newbie does present certain difficulties, though. Newbies usually don't understand protocol order and right now there are a lot of banned cards in Standard, too, and the singles sellers go caveat emptor as far as that goes.
So while Colt47's advice is sound, make sure the singles you buy are still legal, and make sure the combos you think you see will actually work the way you think they will. There's a Rules sub-forum here where you can ask questions about protocol and combo-resolution, and you'll get correct answers.

They just couldn't put 7th edition into Modern because of the card borders? Seriously? Count me out.
To amend my statement, I'd say if you want to build a deck, check out Strictly Better MTG on youtube. He does a lot of standard deck techs, including budget ones and rotation proof ones that are very good at FNM. I've played two of his deck techs back when SOI was still fresh and it was a blast (Red Black Madness Vampires). That one is still legal, but will be rotating relatively soon. Well, that or Jewel Osco having the Halloween candy already out is throwing me for a loop.
