I just came across this card in Amonkhet and was wondering what the thinking behind the design is, and whether there are any Australian Rules Football links.
What am I talking about?
- the title seems to be a reference to the Norte Dame victory march, which features the line "while her loyal sons march onward to victory"
- the Norte Dame victory march was adopted by the Sydney Swans AFL team as their team song. (Team songs are huge in AFL)
- the swans colours are red and white, same as the card.
Is there some on the mtg team who is a swans fan? Or am I tilting at windmills?
Seems as likely to be reference to the Icepick song "Onward to Victory", or Fidel Castro's "Ever onward to victory". Split cards have a pretty consistent naming scheme, using two single-word names that can be connected by "and" or "or" to form an existing phrase (eg, wax and wane, boom or bust, turn and burn). Aftermath cards use "to" instead.
