I have completely sold off my collection of MTG multiple times over the years lol. The energy, vehicles, and artifacts from Kaladesh as well as just the flavor of the set really has peaked my interest. This along with the new ruling on standard kind of has me intrigued in hopping back into just the standard format with some budget decks maybe starting out and see where it goes. Someone talk me out of it please!!!
Kaladesh is definitely interesting and has added some interesting mechanics. I find in terms of flavor it kind of reminds me of Ravnica mixed with Mirrodin. Ravnica because of the cities and conflict and Mirrodin because of the artifact theme. I guess there's a bit of Esper in there too
Talk you out of it? Quite the contrary, it may be one of the best times to jump in to standard that I can remember. You can build a fairly good block deck with Kaladesh alone. A fun set with unique tools/mechanics, flavor for days, and still plenty of room for innovation, especially on a budget (which just happens to fit in with the set's flavor perfectly).
Magic is MONEY and will suck you in. Spending money for cardboard? Don't do it!
In all seriousness, I buy a booster everytime and have fun drafting and making decks. I like having physical cards, so I don't pay into MTGO. But Magic Duels is a fun free-to-play that's still cool to get that Magic fix.
I took the first step down the path today. Picked up a bundle of Kaladesh. I am gonna try to go slow and just put together a couple of budget standard decks.... It won't last though. The addiction will be real.
