MTG Salvation

So, I played MTG from 1995-2001 and really haven't played since. The game has changed quite a bit and I am getting up to speed, but, first things first: which sets should I purchase and which ones should I avoid as I'm getting my collection up and running?

Depends on what format you wanna play. If you want to play modern for example you are better off just buying singles. If standard is your jam, Kaladesh just hit and its pretty sweet.

Do you have time to go to a weekly draft?

Just opening packs is never worth it.

Personally I hate Battle for Zendikar, Shadows of innstrad is good as is Eldrich moon. Moon + Shadows draft is really good.

Kaladesh not as quite obviously good for draft but you get the enemy fast lands, chance of master pieces and a lot of people looking for the newest cards

Unless you're collecting a complete set, stay far away from buying packs. Buying singles online is the wise option.

I'd suggest looking at the EDH format, it allows many of the legacy cards you'd be familiar with and has a bigger player base than legacy. GL!

While buying packs isn't the smartest way to get the exact cards you need, it sure is a lot of fun to open them. I treat them like lotto tickets myself. 1 or 2 a week for funsies.
