Not sure where this should go, so I'll just stick it here and if the mods are unhappy they can correct me.
So, what do you guys think of the possibility of a new Wastes card, now that we have Emrakul ravaging the landscape? I'm a real big fan of how both Kozelik and Ulamog got their own unique cards for their destruction, and given how Emrakul seems to be operating, I am left to wonder what a wasteland created by her would look like.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, am I the only one who's foaming at the mouth at this idea? Or are there other people with an equal appetite for such a card?
I can say with certainty that Wastes won't be coming back in this set. The other two Eldrazi titans corrupted the land, not biology. Ulamog devoured the mana from the land and Kozilek warped it, but Emrakul warps biology and causes it to meld, taking place in living things.
Additionally, back during it's preview season, Mark Rosewater also confirmed that Wastes and in mana costs was an Oath of the Gatewatch thing. Without being in a number of casting costs there's no particular reason to have Wastes in the set.
The waste symbol is in other cards post BoZ/OGW but my understanding is that they won't print basic wastes unless it's set appropriate.
mana, yes, as it has since Alpha, but costs, which is what Wastes are for and the requirement for printing Wastes in a set, have not shown up yet post-OGW and most likely won't for a good while.

I've been looking for a forum on this but I haven't found one, so I hope you can answer my question on it. If a card has C in its cost, do you have to play the wastes basic land to cast it? Or could you use any mana to pay for it?

If it has C in its casting cost, it MUST be paid with colorless mana. that colorless mana can come from any source that produces C. If you go back through the old cards, many of them (specifically artifacts) have been errataed to show C instead of generic mana. For example: Sol Ring in Masterpiece shows CC as opposed to 2

So if I play a land card similar to Battlefield Forge it will satisfy the condition for C because I can get 1 from it? But I can't play a R for a C?
Yeah that's right, a land has to specifically tap for colorless to pay the diamond cost, as opposed to paying a numbered colorless cost wherein any kind of mana works.
It's a terrible mechanic that's thankfully only present on a handful of cards, most of which are garbage, so hopefully soon we don't have to care about it anymore.

Why is it awful? WotC has been wanting to make a 6th basic land for years. They finally did it.

Your confusion is exactly why they made the colorless mana symbol: to illustrate the difference between generic mana which is a cost that can be paid using any colour of mana (or colourless mana) like you see in most cards' mana costs, and colorless mana, which has always existed, as you see on the new printings of Sol Ring which makes two colorless mana, now written as CC instead of using the same 2 symbol.

A sixth basic is something you, me and the dog have been wanting for ages and I'm definitely glad we got it, but Wastes as a card has nothing to do with the colorless specific costs in OGW - they could have done that without Wastes and they could have done Wastes without doing those.

By the lovely AWOL of Damnation Studios.
Art is life itself.
