It's been years since I did anything with mtg. I've got a collection of 10,000+ cards 95% of which are much older..ie.. legends, mirage, old ice age, antiquities, arabian, visions, unlimited, etc etc.
Right now, nothing is really sorted and I have no idea what is worth anything. I saw a few cards just glancing at some that looked like they were worth a good bit. I know I saw an illusionary mask and quite a few legends that are worth a good bit. It's hard to even tell what is a rare in those old sets though.
Well first find an mtg player who can tell you what it's worth

If you've got stuff from 93/94 (alpha/beta/unlimited, revised, legends, antiquities, arabian nights), then that's probably where the vast, vast majority of your value is. Even a lot of junk rares and good commons from those sets are worth something (hell, Beta basic lands are worth quite a bit!) I'd start by separating that stuff from the rest. Depending on how many cards that is, you can either go through it yourself, have a MTG-knowledgable friend go through it with you, or have it appraised at a shop.
There aren't a ton of high-dollar cards for several years after fallen empires, but you never know. if that's the majority of your cards, then it's just going to be a matter of how much effort and time you want to put in vs. just having a shop appraise your stuff and make an offer.
If you ask a person to go through your 10,000 cards or so, at least get them a nice dinner to spend their time doing something nice for you that could yield immense value.
Then search for each of the sets that you know you have cards from and then sort them by price. See if you remember any of the cards that show up on the first page or two for each set.

Any ideas on how to go about selling?
Then go through an online mtg store and look at the highess prices for that set

Please keep us updated with this adventure and journey.
Maybe we can guess and then you tell us how much it was really worth!
I'm going to guess $300-480, really trying to lowball and not overexcite you yet.
