It's just peeking out of the top of the waves. Avoiding the "Un-" arts, because... well... you could use most of the cards as examples. Don't you be hating on Amy Weber art, Mergatroid. She's awesome.
Uktabi Orangutan is a classic example of things that accidentally made it through, considering the monkey business in the background, which was later joked about in Uktabi Kong
Ebon Praetor has a spanish Death judging a blue humanoid being kept prisoner by a large bunny and a devil thing. Yeah, about as weird as it gets.
Rabid Wombat looks like something that should have been in an Un- set.
Goblin War Buggy because lolwut? From the massive chin and jowls, to the broken lance and soapbox derby cart... just what?
Hey, Amy Weber is great. I remember thinking cards like Mishra's War Machine, and Phyrexian Gremlins looked awesome back in the day, but her art is certainly very different from other Magic art, even considering the old cards.
Palinchron. I know it's an illusion (and an old card as well), but why does it look like a Fleshwrither-Pterodactyl Hybrid? Nothing about it (not even the flying) screams... actually the name doesn't make much sense either... it's.... Palin (Greek for "again") and Chron (technically "Slice of Time that starts at an identifiable time and ends at another")... which actually sort of fits considering it's most famous for it's combo-potential for bouncing in again and again...
Well, even if it's an illusion of time that appears again and again... the art still doesn't make any sense.
I'm glad you mentioned Breeding Pit. It got me onto Anson Maddocks, who is a treasure trove for weird old Magic art. Note that I really like most of this art, so my calling it weird is no criticism.
I can't believe nobody has mentioned the minimalistic masterpiece that is Word of Command. If a blank page with a dot is a polar bear in a snowstorm, this must be a black bear in a cave.
Word of Command is definitely an interesting one. I used to think it was the lamest, most lazy Magic art out there, but then I learned that Jesper Myrfors was the art director at the time, so I imagine it was probably a last minute job when something went wrong.
Breath of Dreams - Does my breath smell like LSD: Dream Emulator to you?
Daughter of Autumn - This is a legendary creature. I can put this legendary creature in my command zone. She will be hanging out there holding that apple and plotting your demise while smiling.
Horrible Hordes - No really what on earth did I just see in that 10 cent bin.
Hanwier, the Writhing Township
It's a town. And an Eldrazi. And an ooze. The frightening part is that it was deliberate this time around.

If you can cast a spell, you're doing well, If you can't, that's okay, too. It usually takes a few turns before you have enough mana to do anything. Meanwhile, you should figure out whether you need to discard (p.11). Then announce the end of your turn, and let your opponent have a go.

The Card that prompted me to make this thread was Spiny Starfish. Now there's a starfish with some attitude. Here are some others.
Stasis is a classic.
Knowledge Vault and Divine Intervention are kinda head scratchers.
Meishin, the Mind Cage and Thought Lash port over from the Gross Cards Thread.
Distress is fun.
What else? Whether really odd, or just off base for what Magic art usually is.

Zur's Weirding: Nice loin-cloth upskirt, Zur.
Mawcor: Scary.
Brushwagg: So it's a cat-hedgehog that acts like a puffer fish with hide made of roots and brambles? That's what that is, right?
Equinox: That's not like any Equinox I've ever seen.
Aven Trooper: bad card, interesting color work.

It's a Pookah, apparently.
I just picked up a 7th Edition Rampant Growth for the art. Sunflower halo? What's going on?
Natural Selection is a weird-art classic.
The original Breeding Pit is my contribution to this thread.
Cheers!

Well, even if it's an illusion of time that appears again and again... the art still doesn't make any sense.
Anaba Ancestor: A walking minotaur X-ray.
Armor of Faith: What's that arm attached to?
Cyclopean Tomb: That tomb definitely only has one eye.
High Tide: I think that's a merfolk goddess stirring up the tides with... something.
Living Artifact: I always wondered what that poor creature was. Is that what happens when you bring an Iron Star to life?
Ritual of the Machine, and Worms of the Earth are just creepy, and Spinal Villain and Serendib Efreet have some wacky anatomy. Not to mention this classic.
It's harder to find newer cards, but they're out there.

Gaea's Touch. So that is Gaea?
Su-Chi. So this slavering blue oni with an exposed brain is supposed to have taught something to Urza and Mishra?
I always understood it was a plant-thing that just captured some feline.
What is Bruce Willis doing in a Magic card?
I love Terese Nielsen. Her stuff is almost always incredible, even if some are difficult to follow.
Blistering Barrier is pretty up there.
Wall of Light - so, concert stages have protection from black?
Old walls seem to be notorious for being weird.
L1 Judge
Also, Unlikely Alliance, anyone?
Spore Flower: I like the frame within a frame, but it doesn't look like there are any flowers on that field.
Time Bomb: Gotta throw in an Amy Weber.
Goblin Mutant: I bet he's got at least two more faces we're not seeing.
Infuse: A little creepy.
Mindbender Spores: Tiny octopus brain-fungi. Scarier than half the stuff on Innistrad.
Gilder Bairn: "Put on your frog suit, son. It's time to gather glowing orbs in the forest."

Time Walk
Most of the stuff spoiled for EMN.
Mold Demon - He's here to destroy your shower. And your other shower.
Field of Dreams - Whaaa? Where's the field? What's going on?
Floral Spuzzem - So that's what a Spuzzem looks like...
Takklemaggot - Ewwwwww
Wall of Putrid Flesh - Nothing grows here but decay.
Time Elemental - We seem to have taken on a lot of clocks...
Ur-Drago - The Thing and the Predator had a baby on Battlestar Galactica and now he lives in the swamp.
Daughter of Autumn - This is a legendary creature. I can put this legendary creature in my command zone. She will be hanging out there holding that apple and plotting your demise while smiling.
Horrible Hordes - No really what on earth did I just see in that 10 cent bin.
I know there's probably a lot more that slip my mind
