For standard (5$): 1 pack for entry, a few packs (1-3) for the top players, depending on the number of players, 2 promos for the top 2 players and 2 promos randomly distributed.
For draft (15$): 5 packs for 3-0-0, 2 packs for 2-1-0 or 2-0-1. It used to be a pack per win, but with the canadian money losing so much value in 2015, they had to cut the prizes for 1-X-X records for budget constraints.
My FNMs are always the most current standard draft, I charge $15.00 and pay out 3 packs of whatever is being drafted, given out to the top 1/3 of the participants in a pretty looking prize slope from about half the pot to a single pack. I give out promos to nearly everyone, most of the time, especially if it's the last one of the month and I've extra.
For drafts, winners basically get the equivalent of however many boosters in store credit, with a booster being worth whatever the latest set is worth. So if you win 3 packs, you get the equivalent amount of 3 BFZ packs worth of store credit (which you can use to buy whatever packs you want, or singles, or whatever).
At my store, drafts typically get paidout with boosters to top 4.
For Standard, top 4 gets usually around $10 in store credit. Atlhough, another time we got $15 in store credit. Thing is, it has to be spent in the store on that day. So you cannot save up with it. Also, a 3 packs for $10 do not apply with the credit, unfortunately.
EDIT: We also get that month's promo card too for standard too.
The main store I play at gives a choice of "mix-and-match" where you can choose your prize from assorted packs of the lowest cost sets (so generally whatever's currently in Standard, or a few sets behind)
Another store I play at gives the choice of either packs from the newest set or banking it as store credit. A third store I infrequently play draft at doesn't give away packs, but instead gives additional promos out in addition to the FNM promo (usually excess Buy-a-Box promos or from previous events)
Free FNM, $5 store credit to the prize pool for each entry. Payout is always top 8 since the events tend to get a ton of people. Promos are top 4 and one random given out.
Weekday events are free too, and it's always three rounds no matter how many people shows up. The prize is $10 for 3-0, $7.50 for 2-0-1, and $5 for 2-1.
Depends. Many of the different stores I go to usually hold two Standard tournaments a week. One day will be packs and the other will be cash. They always advertise which day is for which.
For standard, it's a $5 buy in and the top 8 get the promo and everyone gets 1 pack per win. Usually it's 4 rounds, so up to 4 packs. They used to give out store credit scaling up from 5th-1st places based on the turnout, but that discouraged newer or more casual players from coming to FNM since they would never get anything out of it (the store has around a dozen players that regularly go to PTQ's and Grand Prix's and such). I like the pack per win system a lot less, but that's because I usually always placed in the top 5 It has actually helped with our turnout, though.
Modern is a $10 buy in and it's a winner-take-all $100 pot regardless of turnout (it's not rare for there to be only 8 people there to play modern, so the store actually takes a small hit to do this most Friday's). It's pretty common for the top 2 to I.D. and split the pot.
Standard FNM is $5 entry and you get a pack every time you win a game.
Modern FNM is $5 entry and you get $4 store credit for each time you win a game, $2 each split with the other player if you draw.
I've found this to be the most successful way they've run FNM here in a long time. They used to do a pack with entry, but more recently they have given players these point cards (that are kept track of in some database that they have) that you draw out of a box. After you reach a certain amount of points, you can redeem them for store credit.
You also earn 1 point for each $1 you spend at the store, including the FNM entry. For the record, the smallest amount of points you can walk away from FNM with is 9. They add up quickly though, depending on how often you frequent the shop and buy things from it. I know people who play multiple card games/multiple formats and are there quite often. They accumulate points quite a bit faster than the person who might only go for FNM.
100 points is $5 store credit, 250 is $20, 500 is $50, and 1000 is $125. Really gives you an incentive to save up your points.
Do they let you choose?
If it's just packs is it from the newest set only or is it your choice from available sets?

For Draft, if we do $10 draft it's booster packs. If it's $15 it's store credit.
