Okay, I want to have 2 of the same Forest for my Legacy Elves deck. I hadn't touched the deck in a year and when I did, it just had 1 Forest in the deck list. Now it requires two, which I like better.
My favorite Forest currently is the Guru Forest, of which I have 2 of, but I want something different. I have also used Unhinged Forests in the past, as I have around 20 of these. My current choice will probably be the Euro France Forest. It seems pretty beautiful, but I have a feeling that you guys know one that is even more beautiful.
My preference is NON-FOIL, as the rest of the deck is non-foil, so which one looks the best in non-foil? I should also state that I own many Zendikar full art lands, as I played Limited a bunch during that time. I'm looking for something else. Price is probably no object, as most of my Gurus were bought recently.

Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)
Draft - (I wish I had more time for limited...)
Commander - Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build) (dead format for me)
I mean, is there any answer but the borderless, unhinged John Avon forest? I think there are arguments to be made that some other lands are better than his other basics from unhinged, but that forest is just...perfect.
Clearly full of life. Clearly full of potential, it is quintessentially green, you have the old growth trees surrounding, framing, and sheltering the sapling that is the center of the piece, and his coloring is perfect.
The euro france forest is very, very nice, and has a great Tolkien vibe to it, but IMO nothing tops the Avon forest.
Yes, the Unhinged Forests are nice, but I am getting somewhat tired of using them and also the Snow-Covered lands. I have been using them for a while now and looking for something else with more flavor.

I always use the Christopher Moeller Ravnica Forest. It's probably not suited for an Elves deck, but it's my preferred forest that I've run in Jund Walkers and Abzan for the last two years. I rock only Ravnica lands. The Yoong Hao Han Return to Ravnica Swamp, the Richard Wright Origins Island, the Stephen Martiniere Plains. I guess I use the Kamigawa Arena Mountain, which is the only non-Ravnica basic that I use, but I also don't have twenty of them and so am forced to use the Richard Wright Mountain when I play mono red in Standard.

One of these day I have to get myself organizized.
I hate to be predictable, but John Avon Unhinged, because man... it's beyond perfect. The fact that it's almost a cliche of foiled'n'fancy decks in no way lessens that for me.
That being said, I'm fond of many, many others. I quite like the Scott Bailey Schwarzwald European Land, it's very naturalistic. This Alan Pollack Invasion Forest is on the opposite side, surreal and reminds me of bonsai shapes. This Starter 1999 Forest by Quinton Hoover has a story-book quality I really love.
I'm personally fond of this John Avon forest from Onslaught:
I agree completely. This art is a complete home run, it's at the same time pretty, mysterious (the light) and relaxing to watch.
I also love the Christopher Rush forests from ABUR, the one with the 2 eyes in the hole, and the other one with the stone and green background, indicating you're really deep in the woods.
This is always my problem too, and the reason why IU started collecting promo-basic lands in the first place.
I love some of the quirkier lands, like the original 1996 Arena lands (I'm currently running Modern Elves with those Forests) and lot of the APAC lands are also gorgeous. The storybook Christopher Rush art used to be dirt cheap, but nowadays are bit harder to find, but fits certain decks like a charm.
The St99 Hoover version mentioned above is availlable black bordered from Portal 2 and is lovely, but so are some of the 'rare' Portal 1 Forests. (Portal had only one art, which came in precons and demo packs. The other three arts are much rarer, as those could only be opened from boosters. That is why the chinese alternate art lands have one 'cheap' version and three rare ones too. The one shown above is the common Forest. The rest can be seen here.)
The newer MPS lands do come also in non-foil versions and the Innistrad ones look great, altough they are pretty hard to find here in Europe, as the program closed down in 2012 and there were less of them around everywhere. The Lorwyn MPS Forest art was used in M11 or M12, otherwise that would be my clear choice, but Zendikar cycle Forest is also pretty.
Ones that are easier to find, but still very unique are the Arena 2003 lands as seen here. The five lands form a mural and while the Forest is only the third best out of the bunch, those Islands and Mountains are such great art that the third place is no consolation prize.
GURU's are obviously great, but there's the value problem. Shuffling the deck with 150$ basic lands isn't something one should do all the time. And they loose the bling factor after a while, so one should change once every while to something else. Also getting lots of them needs some serious trading or funds nowadays.
But I would suggest surfing the Magic Rarities pages a bit and finding the lands you like and getting them sooner than later. I had planned getting 21 Arena 2003 Rob Alexander Mountains for a burn deck for several years, but spent the money on other things, like MPS lands, and suddenly there weren't any availlable for a while and when any surfaced the price had tripled. Now I'm stuck with seven and still battle should I burn 100+ euros on getting the rest.
I find John Avon's work to be severely over-hyped at this point in time. They're just not as special as they used to be (if they ever were). I'm currently using Chris Rush's non-ABU forest - http://magiccards.info/apac/en/6.html - they're something most people haven't seen before, since they're a really old APAC land.
There's a lot of gorgeous ones, but somehow this one is my favorite:
It's just so...serene.

That being said, a lot will depend on what other colors I'm running. I really like "matching" in, some sense, basics, for example this very mountain-y forest with this very foresty mountain in Gruul colors.
UTeferi, Temporal ArchmageU's prison: blue is the new orange is the new black.
Mizzix Of The Izmagnus : wheels on fire... rolling down the road...
BSidisi, Undead VizierB: Bis zum Erbrechen
GTitiania, Protector Of ArgothG: Protecting Argoth, by blowing it up!
GYisan, The Wanderer BardG: Gradus Ad Elfball.
Duel EDH: Yisan & Titania.
