Despite how many cards I own worth more than $100 (many duals, expensive Legacy/EDH foils, Legends rares, etc), I think the highest I've ever paid for something was exactly $100 for an English Nether Void. I've never even traded for anything of such high value, either. I just kind of buy things and then a few years later they're like 10x the price (sometimes literally 10x, as with my $30 MPR Wastelands).
Nothing as serious as $200+ but I had to think really hard before purchasing a judge promo of Imperial Recruiter for $150, there's just no substitution in Red for what he does (unless Im only looking for goblins)
Single card I shelled out cash for was a Jace, TMS at 105. The most expensive single I picked up though is a Revised Underground Sea, lightly played, got it for 200 using trade credit.
I spent about $85 apiece last year for 2x Jace, the Mind Sculptor from Worldwake, but they were bought with money from selling cards. Other than that I have traded almost exclusively (or had given to me) everything that I have.

I remember splurging on some type 2 cards back in 2000 or so (when I still played type 2). The ones I still remember are Lin Sivvi, Phyrexian Processor, and all the cards to build a Replenish and Opalescence deck. Good times.

There are few men in this Parliament for whom I have greater respect than the leader of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation. I admire him in my heart, because time and again he has had the courage to say what lays on his conscience, regardless of what the world might think of him. A man of that calibre is an ornament to any Parliament.

Wow. They're that high right now? I bought 2 of them for my Jund Depths deck about 6-12 months ago and was able to get one online for $450 and one from my LGS for $405 (some store credit).
I bought a FOIL Jace, the Mind Sculptor from my LGS today for $420 ($300 store credit and $120 cash).

It's the set of goyfs that I bought a few months ago. One of them is French because it was a bit cheaper. I'm still not quite comfortable with having such expensive pieces of cardboard. It kind of feels like I don't own them, I'm just borrowing them for a deposit that I'll get back upon return (when I sell them).
My best investment though would be my book art Jace Beleren. Got 2x for $20 years ago.
