No matter where you go, people are bound to run into quite unusual happenings Magic is no exception. What strange happenings have happened while you were playing Magic?
For me I have a few:
I was playing at a LGS Legacy Event for a Dual Land and this one dude hadn't played since the Extended era. On turn one he drops a Vampric Tutor most of us drop our jaws in dumbfoundedness and he looks back confused. Needless to say he dropped out of tournament apologizing profusely saying he never looked at the B&R list when he came back.
My opponent called the Judge on me when I reanimated an Empyrial Archangel and insisted on a deck check. He insisted that the card was only SB and I changed my board in response to him being burn. I probably should have just went for Iona and saved the time.
Illusionary Mask in paper magic.
A guy was playing Splinter Twin and comboed out, his opponent insisted on having tokens being on the field. The poor guy had no tokens so he had to use his Yu-Gi-Oh cards so when you walked by it looked like a Magic player was fighting a Yu-Gi-Oh player.
Last night I was playing a 3-way EDH game on MTGO with my Rubinia Soulsinger deck.
On my turn, I play Rubinia and pass. The guy right before me drops a Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger and passes turn. On my turn I steal Vorinclex, make a few other plays and pass. His next turn he tutors up Homeward Path and uses it to regain Vorinclex. On my turn, I steal Vorinclex back and blow up the Path.
I once saw myself throw my entire RDW deck into my recycling bin in my kitchen because I lost a bagillion games in a row to my gf when she was playing faeries (this was right after time spiral block rotated when RDW was a real thing and ran Figure of Destiny, Demigod of Revenge, etc). Stupid faeries.
Does an actual fight count as odd? I've seen a few players come to fisticuffs.
Also, a building burning down next door and the players being very insistent on finishing a long multi-player game. I was going "That building is attached to this building. That building is on fire!" I don't know, maybe I should have implied their foils might get singe marks instead.

This made me lol so hard

First come the goblins. Hordes of them. But soon the ramp produced by xenagos attracts monstrous token-producing hydras. Towering over the battlefield, these 12-headed killing machines are protected 2 archetypes of endurance as they crash any resistence left
But actually an unsleeved fully powered vintage deck being played. Dude just played for fun and had them since the start and never really thought about condition or value.
I have seen tables flipped, fist fights, decks tossed across a full room of players, decks thrown out because they lost a match, cards ripped up because they lost to them before.
Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to Magic the Gathering.
I was playing a GB constellation deck and my opponent was playing mono blue devotion. We were playing for first place in the last round at FNM and he was on his last turn after going to time in the third game, we assumed it would be a draw. However, earlier in the game he had stolen a Llanowar Wastes from me with Nightveil Specter, which allowed him to cast a Sylvan Caryatid he flipped from my library later. On his final turn of the game, he half-heartedly swung in with a non-lethal Nightveil Specter and happened to flip one of my two boarded-in Gray Merchant of Asphodel. Because he had my Caryatid and my Wastes, he was actually able to cast the Gary and the Specter gave him a total of 5 devotion, which was exactly what he needed to finish me. Super cool and super dramatic ending, even if I was on the wrong end of it. That couldn't have happened without every card falling into place perfectly.
I was drafting with my friends last weekend and one of them had the weirdest ideas during that night.
- he insisted I take trample damage after he used his hooting mandrils to block my 1/3
- he insisted that lifelink on my abzan guide does not trigger when I use it for defending
- he vigorously tried to convince me to pay for the regeneration of my kin tree warden during
declare attackers phase, otherwise it will die if he declares blockers without me, paying for his abillity
upfront the declare blockers step
Goblin Guide attacking for fourteen damage--after the other three copies had been taken out by Surgical Extraction after a second was hit by Force of Will--while my opponent failed to find a second land, was ultimately forced to crack a Lion's Eye Diamond with a full hand to kill my Guide with Pyrite Spellbomb (the deck was a combo deck using Spellbomb and Auriok Salvagers) at one life, and finally finding a second land--a fetch. Meanwhile I couldn't find a Flame Rift, Price of Progress or Sulfuric Vortex (or Anarchy) for all those turns to kill my opponent through his Leyline, but I won a turn or two after my Guide died anyway.

Rules Advisor (as of the last time they offered that certification).
Quote from "William Lyon Mackenzie King" »
There are few men in this Parliament for whom I have greater respect than the leader of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation. I admire him in my heart, because time and again he has had the courage to say what lays on his conscience, regardless of what the world might think of him. A man of that calibre is an ornament to any Parliament.

Psh, my Jaya Ballard EDH deck is already singed. And that's including cards like Kozilek, Rolling Earthquake, Wheel of Fortune, Cavern of Souls, and Sword of Fire and Ice. There are only 6 foils in the deck (plus foil Jaya, who isn't burned), but the foil Grim Lavamancer (PDS) looks really cool, IMO: the foiling material cracked in the heat, and it looks like there's lightning coming down over his head.

Was it because he tried to cast it on a leyline that was in his opponent's opening hand? I can't think of any other reason for that to happen.
That Valakut looks awesome.
Yup. Reanimator player got LotV'd, and thought he could counter it. Sadly, no such luck.
The strangest thing that has ever happened to me was an infinite Oblivion Ring loop on MTGO.
