Ah yes,
thanks for clearing that up! Still makes me wonder how the hell that cheetah hid in that monkey though.
He just had to shuffle the monkey's innards in a way that kept the entrails he didn't want on the top. Sorry guys.

Disowned Ancestor is unwanted an unloved by his kin, despite being a totally helpful guy to have around. Meanwhile, Benevolent Ancestor has the full confidence of his family who are fearless thanks to his measly cleric ability.
Recoil is bizarre. If you bounce a creature and it goes into his head, where does it come out after he discards it?
Does anyone else find it odd that the Duel decks contain copies of the Planeswalker they purport to represent?
When you play the Jace deck, you're taking on the role of Jace, so why would he ever need to summon himself in a duel?
Planeswalkers are really vain, don'cha know?

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
It doesn't look like anyone has mentioned one of my favorite flavor fails, Gaea's Skyfolk
When you combine an elf with a merfolk, why does it fly??
I'm going to reach har har har and say that "spirit of the sea" covers things like tempests, tropical storms and other windy sea-related natural phenomena.

Interesting perspective. I was always working with the assumption that the merfolk used to create those hybrids were vodalian knights.
Anyways, a more recent flavor fail for me is smite the monstrous which should technically be able to target and destroy any creature with monstrosity which has previously activated that ability and became "monstrous". I wouldn't expect it to hit "monstrous" things like etched monstrosity, but doesn't it seem ironic that the card was printed in the same standard environment as monstrous creatures, and yet seemingly doesn't even care about that characteristic? What's really strange is that it can't even hit Keepsake Gorgon after it becomes monstrous nor can it target a monstrous fleecemane lion either which does have the required power criteria for targetting. Gofigure
Anyhow, the best I can come up with myself is a game in the top 8 of a PTQ back during Urza block in which we were starting game 3 with time already expired, so the tiebreaker rule was that whoever had more life after 3 turns would win. And I lost to... healing salve.

I think the flavor of it goes: The planeswalker is like on a hill or something slinging spells and chucking creatures into the fray, but when you draw the walker, that's him/her sayin "**** it, this looks like fun, I wanna get in that mess too"
OR:
You're still your own planeswalker, and maybe you've agreed to help the featured walker, but they got held up signing autographs or something, so you're stuck slinging their spells and monsters, then, when you draw the walker, that's them sayin "sorry I'm late, whaddid I miss?"
Number one flavor fail of all time: Godsend. Elspeth cannot equip her own weapon? Hmmmm....
Well isn't she depicted holding the Godsend in the Sun's Champion version of Elspeth?
Here's another flavor fail. Avacyn, Angel of Hope is depicted wielding a Moonsilver Spear yet does not have first strike or the ability to call down 4/4's.

She hasn't attacked yet, duh
Sheesh. A girl gets released from her moonstone prison and you expect her to pick up a spear and start charging demons already? Give her a break!

That's how it operates mechanically, but flavorwise, why?
Well, planeswalkers dont "die" when they run out of loyalty, they just stop helping you. Maybe dreadbore is really just asking the planeswalker politely to leave?:D
While we're on this point, how come cards like Hero's Downfall and Dreadbore don't just win you the game when you cast them?
Because only summoned planeswalkers can be destroyed. You weren't summoned to the fight; you planeswalked. That makes it different.
That's how it operates mechanically, but flavorwise, why?
The summoned planeswalker doesn't get killed by them, they get hit by something hard and unpleasant and decide "screw this, I'm not getting paid enough to put up with this, I'm out."
The same way a Lightning Bolt can "kill" a summoned planeswalker but only damages you.
So we get the enemy colored painlands and not the allied color ones? Well that's reverse of the norm, but I thought Wizards was planning to do full 10 land cycles from now on.
Enemy pains could indicate allied Fetches in the next set, to offset the colour imbalance. It would also make sense since it would allow Modern to have access to all 10 Fetches as opposed to only 5.
Or you could read the article, and now that's not true.
I always assumed a planeswalker going to the graveyard was more "Screw this, I'm outta here."

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the most obvious single-card flavor fail I've ever seen: Carry Away.
There are quite a few cards that must've been changed late in the development cycle and couldn't be renamed/reflavored. A recent mild case is Villainous Wealth's flavor text, "Gold buys death, death earns gold." which sounds like the spell is being powered by death, that is, Delve.
Spider edition: Why did it take until Darksteel to produce a spider with flash, considering spiders are known for being hidden until the time is right? And until Shadowmoor an actual venomous spider? Meanwhile, Goliath Spiders are apparently now orb weavers. (The actual goliath birdeater is a tarantula.)

I've always taken Planeswalkers being destroyed as something like they see it coming, deciding they can't/don't want to take it's effect and walking out of there before it actually hits to do the killing blow.
The flavor text just makes it more confusing. "The grace of the forest and the spirit of the sea." What does either of those have to do with the sky?
Yep, it is pretty much a centerpiece of the story of Visions
Let this great clan rest in peace (2001-2011)

It gets worse: He's helped by all your other outlast cards. Hardened Scales? Ainok Bond-Kin? Mer-Ek Nightblade? Abzan Battle-Priest? Abzan Falconer? Retribution of the Ancients? Tuskguard Captain? Oh, and while not +1/+1 counter-related, Chief of the Scale, too.
