Hey guys I've been thinking of greeting into magic. When I was younger I played Pokemon and was always into the strategy. I was in an accident at work when a cinder block fell on to my head and the blow shattered a few vertebrae. Anywho it left me only able to use one hand and I was wondering if this would prevent me from playing this game? Ps I won a large settlement and am willing to pay money to people for playing with me weekly.
Welcome to the forums Mickgagger. There is a Introduce Yourself thread available but it seems like this is an introduction and a General concern. I am not sure what to say about your interesting situation but I am positive that you don't have to pay money to play Magic with anyone. That being said, watch out for some of these posters, they fly off the handle pretty quick and some are as sketchy as it can get.
Yea I'm off to a good start I spent 4,000 on everything I need earlyer and bought a 24 pack of redbull a from Costco . per day and have been learning My so he ussually picks me up.
Playing with one hand is certainly possible and will probably only be marginally more difficult so you should be fine. That being said I agree with Ruggley in that you definitely don't need to pay anyone to play Magic, most Mtg players are nonjudgmental and kind although you might run into a few dicks every now and then. I've personally seen a person walk into my local gaming star with an oxygen tank trailing behind them and another was clearly disabled. There also a few cases of blind people playing the game so don't worry about any limitations you may think you have because I'm sure you can become an active member of this community like anyone else.
Anyway welcome to Mtg Salvation and I hope you get into the mtg community as soon as you can!
If you require assistance due to a disability talk to your TO, I am sure they will be more than happy to make accommodations for you. I have heard of people who shuffle their library and hold their hand for others who aren't able to do it themselves. Physical dexterity is NOT a retirement of magic.
Also MTGO is an option for playing from home, where all you need to be is be able to click your mouse.
Seriously, don't pay people to play with you unless you're competing in tournaments. People, like myself, play just to play so my cards to don't collect dust. As for formats, the easiest, but costly one, for n00bs to enter is Standard. After getting used to the format, you can branch off into more eternal formats like EDH, Modern, and Legacy where having one competitive deck and sticking with it brings you the best rewards. It's a doozy to get into a first, but pays off in the long run. If you do go into Standard, don't buy a lot of RtR block stuff, except the shocks, Deathrite Shaman, Abrupt Decay, and Sphinx's Revelation. Those have eternal applications. Stick with Theros block stuff. And as the above poster mentioned, MTGO is a good place to go for playing. There's a lot more events, cards are cheaper compared to paper, and from your disability, it'll be the easiest for you. The human interaction is what you'll for sure miss though.

One more thing, know what your card's worth and value is when trading. I'm sure someone here will help educate you on that. Market Street Cafe here on this site is a good playground of info. Magiccards.info is a great site to get card worth, aside from eBay and Star City Games.
First off, please don't be wasting your settlement money for something as unnecessary as a MtG player. It can go towards something better or saved.
Second, don't let the disability stop you from going into a shop and play with others. I've seen people play with just one hand before, but if you really need someone to hold them for you, it shouldn't be a problem either as long as you let people know.
What might help is to get one of those card holders that you can set on the table and it holds up your hand. That way your hand is always free to draw cards and interact with the board. As long as you can find a way to play and are not significantly slower than the average person then there shouldn't be any issue
I've seen people play one handed before, such as having a cast for a broken arm and unable to use it at all. It is possible to shuffle one-handed (there's two methods that I've seen) but they take some time to master properly. Actually playing and manipulating the cards shouldn't be too hard with card sleeves, since that gives them some thickness and makes them easier to pick up. Sleeving cards with one hand is probably difficult though.
I was at a sanctioned Legacy event the other week, and the judge shuffled for a woman with a broken arm (and she was running fetch lands). If you are playing casual, you will need a friendly group willing to lend a hand.
Best of luck! Strategy games are fantastic when your capacity for physical activity is limited.
Wow, nicely spotted, I think you're right. I mean, it was obvious that this is a joke account (to anyone not catching on, note the existence of posts from this user about strategy before their "Hey, I'm thinking of playing" post), but you're right that this does seem exactly like King Pun's style.
Anyway welcome to Mtg Salvation and I hope you get into the mtg community as soon as you can!
