I remember I made a guy IRL ragequit in a Coldsnap(x3) limited draft with a Sheltering Ancient that got enchanted with Shape of the Wiitigo on turn four.

I.E. It's say, T6. He's got out an Obz, and plays a BBoV. I'm at 3 cards in a b/g deck with no way to take care of BBoV. I scoop. All sorts of complaining about how I quit too early, I'm a bad sport, a poor loser, etc. For not staying with no way to defeat their win-con? Yes, let's prolong a beating.
I've played a lot of different games, and there are always those who feel obligated to suffer through a slow but clear loss -- and expect others to do the same. I guess part of the fun for them is the process of winning itself, or maybe the process of playing out every motion of the game.
But I'm with you -- I get my fun mostly out of not knowing who's going to win, and playing the game to find out. Once I know who's going to win, the game isn't much fun anymore, regardless of whether I'm the one winning or losing.
I asked: "how do you get blue and red mana?"
He replied (paraphrasing): by having a sexual intercourse with your mother.
Then he quit and I laughed.
I had one on Cockatrice where I was playing Bolas Control in EDH. Cast Spelltwine, targeting my Time Warp, and a Conflux in another bin. The whole table scooped with cries of "Unimaginative deck", and "Unfair" and the like.
That's not to mention every time I'm playing standard and they quit after their 5th-6th creature is killed. Sure, I'll concede in the face of insurmountable odds and leave the game with a semi-abrupt "gtg, gg", but I haven't just quit unexpectedly.

Last night I got into the final match of a game day. I have made top 8 in a lot and even top 4 in a couple but never into the finals. Before the game my opponent put the champion mat in front of himself and offered to split packs if he could have the mat. I told him I would split but I wanted a shot at the mat, even though it isn't as nice as some recently. He then proceeds to play using the mat as though he owns it. I called him a troll and beat him down 2-0, my g/r devotion against his American control. At the end of game 2 I revealed a stormbreath from domri, and started to cast only to have him yank the mat from under his board, throw it on top of mine and walk out leaving his girlfriend to apologize and clean up.

I used to have the same kind of attitude when the going looks absolutely hopeless, but since then, I've learned that I become a better player the more I psychologically attempt to endure through these types of situations. If there's one card in my deck that is an answer to an impending threat, I maintain my composure as I wait. And if I'm at the point when I know that there isn't a single card in my deck that would save me, I still make an attempt to carry on taking advantage of any play mistake my opponent may do. Of course, I'd just scoop if we're pressed on time tough.
If round time limits weren't a thing, I might agree with you, but due to them being a thing, if you play a lengthy deck, you cannot afford to always play it out.
STATISTICS.
All of these "Let's eliminate bad cards" crusades are simply ignorant. And when they start to devolve into "WotC is conspiring to give us crappy cards," they just become embarrassing. MATH is conspiring to give you crappy cards.
That's a truly *****ty time. I recently played a guy in STANDARD (so.. 60 card deck) and he had a 15 card deck.. which consisted of a really *****ty combo or something. I didn't bother complaining because he looked like he might shiv me so I played him and beat him... then he berated me because I had the upper hand with a 60 card deck. My BF even jumped in to explain that his deck wasn't even legal and that with a 15 card deck he was setting himself up for sadness.. he still *****ed and moaned for quite some time. People suck.
I especially hate it when I win a match fair and square and the person that lost feels the need to comment that I only won because my BF built my deck. Yes, my BF has been playing magic for a long, long time (over 15yrs) and he is really good at it. That doesn't mean he builds my decks nor did he just vs this person and win.
We have a friend in our play group... she is the girlfriend of a long time friend of ours. (Our group being Me, my younger brother, his girlfriend, a longtime mutual friend, and HIS girlfriend <---the one in question) She just started playing recently, and she is not really a TERRIBLE player, just new and still has some intricacies to learn, as well as a little humility. She tends to be a moderately spoiled individual outside of Magic anyway, which makes for en even worse attitude IN the games. She is obsessed with cats and obviously, has made a Cat deck. Ajani everywhere, lots of token creation, and lifegain. She comes into every game with the attitude of "I'm going to gain tons of life, get a huge battlefield, scare people, then win" and whenever her plans get messed up, the obvious audible sighs and attitude emerge. She has really only ever rage quit a couple times I can think of. But usually it's just her being grumpy and huffing-and-puffing the whole game, which can be worse to have to sit through because it almost sours your win. Past that, I have to wonder if she does not get so frustrated because she is trying to cheat. Because it seems like EVERY game, EVERY time, she always pulls her Healer of the Pride or Ajani's Mantra... EVERY time, within the first few turns. Time to make sure she is only running 4 copies, eh?
That's another pet hate of mine - people that need to 'check' your deck after you win because they can't fathom the fact you beat them. My VERY first game with someone ended in a guy literally screaming at me because I had used some *****ty red burn spell that had just left rotation. I had one copy in my deck (I was terrible at deck building back then...) but it didn't matter, because he berated me for a 5 minutes then left because the owner of the store wasn't going to force me to forfeit the entire night after I accidentally cheated. This wasn't even a sanctioned FNM event.. just a casual standard match. I DIDN'T EVEN GET TO USE IT!
Nowadays, I am much, much better. I hate to pull the 'Girl' card, but it is a fact that some of the hardcore players really get upset when they are beaten by me to the point where they comment how I get impossibly good hands and that I mustn't make my own decks. "Leanna, how many ethereal armours are you running? There must be more than 4..." "It must be nice, dating someone who can make you decks that are nice and OP"
There have been quite a few times I have been raged at lol. Most of the time it's just because people think I suck at magic, simply because I can't see. Right now, I'm playing three decks in standard: RG Monsters, America Control, and Bant Combo. When I actually want to win, I'll play Monsters or America, but when I want to have fun, I'll pull out my combo deck. And every single time I win with that deck, people just get so mad. Yet every time people win against while I'm playing that deck, always ask me to show them what it is, and then laugh and tell me that it's an interesting and funny deck. It's just that people get angry for losing.
The funniest time I ever had someone rage at me though was because I was careless. It was when I first started playing at my local game shop, and I was still kind of shy about asking people to play. It was the second FNM I had ever been to, and I went up against an opponent, I was playing UWR Geist. I had on a pair of my reflective glasses, because it does unnerve people to see my eyes. (They aren't white I'm told, but a flat grey-black color. Not sure, can't tell when I look in a mirror. ;))
Before the match though, I didn't tell my opponent that I was blind. Hindsight, people, hindsight lol.
So I attack with Geist, and he has three Lingering Souls tokens. All he says is "Block. Snapcaster, Tragic Slip." And so I ask him, "What are you blocking, and what's your target for Tragic Slip." And he goes "Are you freaking blind, man??" Apparently he was just touching my cards with his. I couldn't help myself and just busted up laughing. I took my glasses off and he apologizes profusely lol.

I have a friend who was the youth chess champion of Alberta for a few years. Well in English class while we were bored we would play chess. He knew that I was terrible at it so he would instead beat me with his eyes closed. I think he also had a palm pilot with a chess program on it where he would also beat the hardest difficulty with his eyes closed. I was frankly amazed every time.
I had a Mono Blue Devotion player basically rage quit game one of round one Top 8 of a large FNM. It was 5 packs per person prize pool, he was one of the players who wanted to play it out versus splitting (28 packs per person if we split). I am on UW control and rip all four of my D Spheres thanks to Jace Flips, Sphinx and all the scry. When he tries to overload a rift I had a Dissolve in hand to counter. He throws a fit and starts going through his sideboard getting ready for the next game. We play it out for a bit as he prepares sideboard cards. He scooped when I landed a Heliod who usually never turns online, but because I had 4 D Spheres he was able to swing.
I was at a Gatecrash pre-release when I happened to get matched up with an ex of my girlfriend, and he knew that we were currently dating. He destroyed me game 1 and had me on the ropes early in game 2. I managed to clear most of his board and land a Debtor's Pulpit tapping down his only creature. He kept drawing blanks and I pinged him to death with small creatures. The same thing more or less happened game 3. The guy didn't say a word, he just threw his deck against the wall and stormed out of the store. Its easily one of my favorite MtG moments.
Last Friday FNM had a guy ragequit in Draft after getting "mana screwed" on 4 land and couldn't play anything for almost the entire game. I'm sorry, but if your curve means doing nothing before turn 5 I'm going to proceed to feel no sympathy for you. Considering this came directly after he beat me when I mulled to five and didn't hit my third land, I found it rather funny how incredibly angry he was. He certainly had the holier than thou attitude that he would have beaten me otherwise.
I also had a guy refuse to game 2 against me in a THS draft, as I had a ton of Wavecrash Tritons, Voyage's Ends, and Triton tactics. That was more pure frustration at the lock I had on him in game one than anything.
Last week I went to a friday night magic and I was playing a rogue block deck that ran no rares or mythics, it was tribal minotaurs. I have only recently started playing magic the gathering again since last week, last time I was playing this game was way back in 2002. So I needed to build a very cheap deck though I didn't have high hopes it would do to well as well. How cheap are we talking? According to DeckStats.net my deck is worth $9.44 all in all.
He was playing what I can only assume is a top tier U/W deck of some sort. This was my first match for the night. What I think infuriated my opponent was when one of my bigger creatures like Borderland Minotaur or Kragma Warcaller would have Prowler's Helm or Grisly Transformation to help with evasion since the deck ran no Mogis's Marauder or Rageblood Shaman. As I do honestly think I made him mad as he went from pleasant to looking quiet unhappy with a focused glare. I personally tried to keep a friendly expression and think happy thoughts. When we finished I offered him a handshake, as I see good sportsmanship is paramount, my opponent refused the handshake and maintained that same expression on his face, he lowered his head as he walked to another table with his things. As the night went on and the tournament came to a close, I had went 2-1-1 with my rogue minotaur deck that only lost to a Jund deck and the other two players I battled that night were fairly friendly and polite, go figure.

I just play on Friday and then spend all the night for it on FNM.
Then play on weekends a bunch of tournaments.
If you dont enjoy playing 4 hours a day, you are exhausted (motivation exhausted) , but its totally fine to get your weekly gaming season.
