I bought all 5 commander decks today at the local walmart, each was priced at 29.99. The clerk sort of chuckled when the price was 165.00 for 5 small packages.
Now here is my question, I bought them to play with them but what is the general consensus on whether or not these decks will rise in price over the next few months or will their value remain at 29.99(at the big box stores) My LGS already has them jacked up to $40.00

WotC has come out and said that Commander 13 is not limited and they will keep printing them as long as there is demand. That would indicate they will drop in value over the next few weeks and months.
I was asked the same question at Target when I got mine and I told the clerk that although some do the resale thing I was just there to get the decks for my own use and to have fun. It was not a money making thing for me.
They were $32.99 at Target so now I'm really hoping that this isn't the first signs of the big box stores also getting into the business of jacking up the price on the first batch.

Long long term (3 years down the line or so) sealed these will be worth quite a bit. If you don't want to wait, crack them open. Short term these are going down as they will be printed until demand is met.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
Haha, those wacky american laws.
In Europe, you pay ONLY what's written on the pricetag, not a penny more. So all listed prices are final. (or could be less if discounts) Actually, even if it was a mistake, (like missing digit) the shop has to give it to you at that price. All for the buyer, to serve him instead of corporation.
The part with the mistakes in prices is definitely not true in all of Europe. For example, it is not true here in Germany, where the price is only final at the cash register and sellers are not held liable for mistakes made when price labeling their product.

This.
If you need your money back now, then you can probably sell them now for a small profit (and by "now" I really mean it, like sell them immediately).
But in the next few months they will go down to ~msrp as the market gets saturated. Then in a year or so they will gradually start to climb back up.

I am originally from Portland, Oregon and there was no sales tax there. Always thought that was pretty cool. Higher property taxes to make up for it though...
I'm not seeing why they would even be worth that much more sealed even 3 years from now. Booster boxes and fat packs, sure, but these have no mystery to them, so they will forever be limited to a maximum price of [Value of known, individual cards] + [slight value for the novelty of getting to open them, etc.]

Are you actually trying to turn a remark about sales tax into a rant against corporations?
Wow, sure. Cause yeah, corporations LOVE taxes.
Also, if what you say about shops having to honor mislabeled prices is true, then it's well and truly idiotic. That much should be evident to anyone with a working moral compass.
What might be more interesting would be to see someone tracking the price drop of the $35 STRIX card that is driving prices. And how long LGS will get away with selling at high markup.
