What happened with Kevin Brumley? I just noticed that all four of his DCI numbers were added to the suspended list on 2013-08-21 for all games with a suspension length of Lifetime.

Well if he purposely had 4 different numbers, then that could be part of the reason as you aren't suppose to have more than one. If for some reason you do then you are supposed to fill out a form to combine them.

Yeah, it's possible it's just some kind of mistake or misentered thing from merging the numbers, or trying to make sure he can't use the other numbers. I wouldn't assume this is some kind of behavioral ban yet. He's a fairly big name I assume? If he had cheated or something it probably would have gotten out.

Nonsense.
Many players have more than one DCI number, particularly casual players who play in a tourney once a new release.
Definitely not something Ban Worthy.
Life time bans are usually handed out for threatening player or person, or some act of violence.

It is part of the rules that players are only to have one number, if they are purposely using different number then that would be ban Worthy. Any accidental instance are reported so they can fix it and combine the numbers. I never said anything that it is the only reason for the ban, all I said it could be a contributing factor if it was on purpose
edit: plz don't make statements that make me think you didn't really read my post (by posting a counter example that doesn't fulfill the requirements I stated).

If you're keeping different numbers to use in different events (one for FNM, one for big tournaments, etc), and doing it intentionally, you're definitely doing something at least suspension-worthy. Remember, intent is everything.

There's nothing wrong with having multiple DCI numbers anymore, ever since we switched to Planeswalkers Points. The purpose of having multiple DCI numbers before was to protect a high rating (because if you went 3-1 at an FNM, you might actually lose points).
Now that we use Planeswalker Points (where you don't lose any points for losing), there's little point in having multiple DCI numbers. More than likely, he was suspended for some reason, and they went through the system and found all of his DCI numbers and suspended them all.
If you're using another or someone else's DCI number while suspended, that's another can of worms, but you're not going to get in trouble just for having multiple numbers.
Scientists have calculated that the chance of anything so patently absurd actually existing are millions to one. But magicians have calculated that million-to-one chances crop up nine times out of ten.
I was banned for making multiple accounts and reversing a paypal payment in 2009. I am guilty of this. I also got involved in online poker and traded tickets with people for funds. I did "scam" a few people and it was a big mistake. I have always regretted it. I offered to pay back money, they declined. I made more accounts in my girlfriends name with permission and used a VPN to hide my ip. Apparently there is a lot of criminal activity of MTGO and they assume I had a part of it, which I did not. Is multi accounting and slight scamming worthy of a DCI ban for life, especially when it was almost 5 years ago? I apologize to the magic community and hope that my recent success in the game and good moral character will help those who i did affect negatively to forgive me. I only ask that my sentence of a lifetime ban be reduced, as stated before in this thread that type of ban is only for the most serious of offenses. I feel Wizards think I am a blemish to the community so Im hoping with your support I can get back to the game I love. Please stand by me on this and join my facebook page.

you know what... i cant stand by you, if youre caught cheating scamming like that you deserve the ban.

with respect, i dont think you get it. This was five years ago and i never had cheated in my life. I made mistakes and have done everything I can to make them right. The point is they are accusing me of things now that I did not do. Serious offenses that if gone un-attended affect my real life and my magic life.

With all due respect, if the actions WotC is taking now are unjustly affecting you in a realm outside that of sanctioned magic play, perhaps it is time to lawyer up?

If playing Magic affects your life in any way other than positively, maybe its time you step away from the game anyways. It is after all, just a game.
Also, if you're being accused of something you didn't do, than your best course of action is to present your case and evidence and let the system do its job. Asking for people to sign a petition or like you on Facebook accomplishes nothing. If I get a speeding ticket, the judge isn't going to care that I have a signed petition from 500 people who think I'm a good guy. But, getting the calibration records for the speed gun might get the case thrown out. Focus your efforts on things that matter.

At least you're honest. I'll give you that.
Apparently there is a lot of criminal activity of MTGO and they assume I had a part of it, which I did not.
You are, by your own admission. You do realize scamming people (or "scamming" people) is illegal, right?
Is multi accounting and slight scamming worthy of a DCI ban for life, especially when it was almost 5 years ago?
Yes.

I don't think you get it. Part of this is accepting the consequences of your actions. Those consequences include a lifetime ban. Feeling bad about what you did and wishing you hadn't done it is all well and good, but it doesn't let you duck the consequences.
I mean, you're trying to write off fraud as "eh, no big deal", and it seems some people got screwed in the process. If that's what you're admitting to, makes me wonder what you're hiding.

Im hiding nothing. They banned me because they think I stole peoples identity and bank information and made purchases in the store, stealing tens of thousands of dollars from them. They didnt ban me because i scammed a person trading pokerstars money for tickets out of ten bucks 5 years ago. What I am guilty of in no way should transcend over to the DCI, My guess is someone at WOTC is in danger of losing their job and I am the scape goat for them. Pin it on me, but guess what? Im banned, Im gone, and they still lose thousands a year from this fraud because it wasnt me. In the meantime I have to be accussed and defend myself.

Unfortunately, the DCI is a private entity and can enforce its rules how they see fit (I'm no lawyer, but to me its no different than "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone"). You can make your case, but you may just have to find a new hobby or play casually. A harsh penalty for what you say you did? Maybe, but regardless of the punishment, you admit to breaking the rules and these are the consequences. I don't really have any sympathy for you just because you're a small time crook and not the kingpin they say you are.

I respect your point of view for what its worth I offered to repay any money that was lost by anyone, not that it amounts to much. What do you want from me? I was a young kid with an online poker addiction.

As a human being, I'm glad that you offered to make restitution.
As a magic player, you violated the rules and a punishment has been issued.
I absolutely agree that you should appeal it, but outside of that, I just don't think you have any course of action. It's a good (if harsh) lesson on the consequences of your actions. And, if the situation ever comes up where you're tempted to steal from someone, I hope you look back on this event in your life and make the right choice.
Look, Kevin, I honestly can tell part of what kind of person you are from your posts:
Basically a good guy, who is capable of making huge mistakes. And I really get that, because I've been known to make huge mistakes before too.
I'm half-rooting for you, but don't think I wasn't reading what everyone else says too-- and because you're a good guy, you'll know that mostly, they're kinda right, too.
but I think you need some really good advice: stop being public about this. if you want to appeal yourself, do it calmly and quietly. maybe you're a well-known community member, but even so, I think that talking directly to the DCI or directly to Wizards or directly to the appropriate concerned authorities, and not trying to get sympathy from others but just kinda making some man-to-man meetings/phone calls/emails, whatever it takes-- that would impress the people you need to impress.
Also, if you really do believe that you're some kind of scapegoat and that there's bigger fish to fry out there....I mean this might sound a bit silly, but you know it looks like it took plenty of smarts and skills to pull what you pulled before. . . . . so maybe you have enough smarts and skills for a ... More Interesting kind of Challenge?
If you are honestly guilty of only what you admit to, and you are honestly innocent of what you are getting banned for, then, I would recommend that your best shot is, well.....I mean pretty much your ONLY shot even might be to pull a Scooby-Doo.
You're not the droid they're looking for? Find the droid then. Find the guy they want that's causing the problems you're getting pinned with. If you're right, he IS still out there. And it might seem like an almost impossible task, but well,
Since you ARE guilty of a lot, even tho you plead innocent to other things...well then either having to deal with the lifetime ban, or having to go through something as challenging as helping catch the guy that deserves the lifetime ban, either of those could be your quest for Redemption.
In the spirit of Theros Block, consider this your Call to Adventure, friend
Watch some Clint Eastwood movies, then read an Encyclopedia Brown book or two, then ask yourself what you really should be doing.
This is probably the dorkiest suggestion you will get from anyone over this. However, I would like to believe that you have spoken sincerely so far, so I spoke sincerely to you. Do something heroic. It's not great news for you because heroic feats are, well, by nature, difficult/hard/sometimes unappreciated.
Still, if I were you, that's how I'd be thinking. If it were me, I'd jump at taking the Scooby-Doo stuff instead of the Lifetime Ban But, I am not seeing a Choice "C" dude. And.....to be perfectly honest, the Scooby-Doo stuff is probably a fool's errand and a hopeless quest and your quarry will hide in the infinite maze of anonymity and interwebs for all time until the dawn of the end of the world.
I am probably every color-combination it is possible to be, though it's really hard to figure out what it would mean to be 4-colored....it doesn't seem logical to be 4-colored without being 5-colored.
