Around 2002 I have 40 plus Wrath of God and Birds of Paradise, back when they were like $15 cards. Luckily I traded then up for duels and other legacy/vintage staples. Wish I never traded my bazaars though
I collect Organ Grinder's. I used to get them purely from trading or people giving them to me, but I eventually I stopped coming across it. I had to start buying them in bulk to keep up the collection and at last count, I had a little less than a 1000. In fact, if anyone's ever noticed (which I doubt), it's why SCG and adventuresOn is rarely if ever stocked with them.
One day, far off in the future, a legacy deck will surface that breaks him in an unbelievably powerful way. Mark my words and mark them well!!!
In all seriousness though, i just love him because he hates the same players i hate and adds a hilarious touch of randomness every turn. Even if he's terrible, he's fun to play and he perfectly matches my mtg style.
I hoard foil Stab Wounds. It is one of my favorite arts in the RTR block.
So far I have 1.
But I'm gonna hoard the **** out of it and hope to find more!!
I didn't get the foil version but I did open up a ravnica pack today and saw it. Its one of the few cards I instantly recognized. Awesome artwork, for sure.
I collect Spawnsire of Ulamog since it was the backbone of my first Standard and first tournament deck back in ALA/ZEN standard right after ROE came out. I currently have 31 of them, since I'm more of a casual collector than one who goes out of their way to buy every copy off eBay / TCG Player / local shops and traders. I would like to eventually get up to a hundred copies. Preferably before they hit $5.

To me there's a clear difference in collecting something for your own reasons (love the artwork, first card you opened/won with, design you love, etc) from wanting to get enough cards from market to affect the price and make money. As for having two or even three playsets of a card you think you will play or even expect it to go up in price, is not real hoarding. When you actually start affecting the supply in the market (1 % of the print run, buy dealers out etc.) then you are hoarding.
I collect Grizzly Bears, Lightning Bolts, AN Deserts, FtV Deserts, Wall of Swords, Bone and Stone (only alpha, beta, summer and foils on the walls) and Misprint German Drudge Skeletons (With the Swamp art). I have 100+ of each, except the walls. I also keep all the early expansion cards, meaning I have bulk boxes of AN, AQ Lg and DK cards that I will keep for extended time. This also let's me put together full common sets for trading/selling if I need to.
I also used to buy collections, so I can randomly have 10-50 of some rare in my bulk rare boxes. Last I went through them I put 22 Nightmares and ~20 Royal Assassins into my trade binder when they were confirmed to be in M14. (And now they are back in the bulk boxes. Everybody locally had theirs already.)
I also trade and buy some, in my opinions, undervalued EDH-foils and keep some extras until they mature. This sometimes pays for buying new cards and might have marginal effect on other peoples card prices. Because of this I can also have multiple EDH-decks with the good newish foils in there. I also end up with some foils that never go up in price, but them's the breaks.
Well you joined the forums in 2009, so i assume you have been playing since atleast then? You had the same opportunity i did for these cards? Zendikar was not even close to an undersold set. With the hidden treasure cards boxes flew off the shelf. Also i worked hard trading for them, its not like i went online and bought out stores. I guess im a bad person for realizing a good deal when i see one? Im not the one who made them coast what they are and im sure there are plent of other people out there with more copies than i...
I collect All Hallow's Eve. Have close to 40 now. My favorite artwork. That's all I hoard though, well except my complete sets which I can't hoard as I only have 1 each.

Even if he hasn't, doesn't change that people scooping up huge numbers of staples - of all printings - and holding on to them, not selling them, trading them, or playing them, may [only using may to keep me from being accused of making up facts] affect not just the supply but price in such a stupid manner since at that point it's not the people wanting to find them to complete that collection, have a playset or two, to hold on to for a little then sell if the price goes up and / or PLAY with them, who are affecting the price largely with the supply/demand, it's these people buying up these enormous quantities of cards and taking out of the pool of what is available for the people who want to do those things I outlined.... hope that ramble makes sense.
12 or so years ago,I was at Prezcon. They had a little game where you pay a couple dollars and reach in a box full of sleeves. Each sleeve would have about 8 cards in it, but one had a Black Lotus in its midst. After several plays all I ended up with were several dozen Kelsinko Rangers. I still have them to this day...
Oh cmon. Don't be mad at those hoarding fetches and duals. Even if every hoarder sold up, they'd either be bought by companies like SCG or fall into the hands of someone else who would never trade or sell them.
For hoarding, I suppose I would be Enlightened Tutor at ~18. Its not my fault. Equipment deck, tempered steel deck, two enchantress decks, oath of druids deck, a counter top deck and my GF's decks. =(
I didn't get the foil version but I did open up a ravnica pack today and saw it. Its one of the few cards I instantly recognized. Awesome artwork, for sure.
It cracks me up because to me, it looks like a girl in a Halloween costume who drank too much and is stumbling home.

Got any proof to that?
Regardless, less than .1% of the total amount of a brand new card doesn't raise it's price. Even if those were in circulation it wouldn't effect their card's price, and even if it DID have an affect, it would be like $.50 cheaper.
12+ Lightning Bolts. Four by delibrately buying them when I started out, four from a friend who left the game, four (or more) from promotional packs and boosters.
I play so much Commander that multiple copies of things that aren't Izzet colour instants generally aren't relevant, so Lightning Bolt is by far my most owned non-basic.

Doesn't affect the price to any degree worth mentioning, I agree, but 25 playsets is 24 people who can't get playsets because they're gathering dust in a binder. And that's from one person. I sincerely doubt that there is only one, in fact I'd be surprised if there were only 100 (globally), but even if you assume 100, that 2400 playsets of tarns gathering dust and 2400 players who can't get playsets. Not a lot on its own, but it all adds up.
There are more standard than legacy players, and modern players, combined. Many modern/legacy players play standard, also, but I would imagine there are more than twice the number of only standard players, as players that play other formats.
Now, I mention this because, when that card was in standard there were enough for everyone that wanted them when they were in standard. And that's including the tens of thousands that were in circulation at the time.
Sure, he has 24 playsets, so the 24 peoplethat could have his should just go buy them off tcgplayer, where 86 differed stores have listings, mostly of multiple copies, of scalding tarn right now.

Did you look at the artwork for the promo? It's a flying whale.

If you look closely, it's a colossal sized whale coming out of the water. Hate to burst your bubble, but it isn't flying.
It's a cool card, nonetheless. Makes me freaked out just thinking about a creature that huge. haha..

I'm gonna start calling it "Walk of Shame."

That would come out to 1 million dollars worth of Jace's on the low end of TCGplayer.com.
Feel free to bid on my cards here!
