Okay, sometimes I laugh real hard when people rage quit on me when they have half a chance at winning. Decided to start a thread when someone quit out on me when I had one life and they had twenty. (yes it was a rage quit I knocked them down from 31 life two turns earlier and gambled they had no direct damage). So I thought people could post funny screen shots of silly rage quits.
I don't have a screen shot but at least 3 people scooped after I flipped a Delver of Secrets on turn 2 while I was testing Modern the other day. In the words of Michael Jacob: "Wait, come back! You still have a chance!"

I don't see the joke. You have 11 points of power on the board, one of which takes double removal to kill, the other of which is huge and evasive. You've seen they have nothing in hand, nothing on board, and no direct damage to draw into. Two hits and they are dead. How is that funny?

That there doesn't strike me as a "rage quit", merely a "quit" (or rather, a concession), but we might have different definitions for it, I suppose. To me, a rage quit is when one player actually rages in the chat, like:
lol
what a lucky topdeck
this is so ridiculous
your deck is terrible
such a joke
You know the drill. Happens frequently enough. And to those of you who think this is acceptable behavior, consider whether this is something you'd have dared to say to someone's face, and whether you think it'd be cool if someone better than you scolded you for your bad plays.
I can't help but think that whenever I face one of these on Modo, they must must be in their mid-teens, since it just screams immaturity. Sadly, they aren't always.
When I used to play MTGO occasionally, I just closed the chat window. If anyone typed any message to me through that pop up box thing, I just replied "No habla Ingles" and that usually stopped them from talking to me.
After seeing a few diatribes, I lost any desire to interact with MTGO players
Oh hey, great idea - I've been saving these for a while
I wish I had saved the ones where people actually raged before disconnecting but I'm not actually expecting to be raged at so it usually takes me by surprise.
I don't understand what's happening in the third one
Only the popped out chat counts, the other chat is just the general chat.
This wasn't really a rage quit so much as someone being incredulous that they were losing to a pile of jank (it happens people, get over it).
The transcript slightly edited and reordered for clarity:
Hess: see now it wont even let me block your creature
me: which one? your knight of glory?
Hess: you only have one creature lol
me: I mean which are you trying to block with?
Hess: I can't block with any of them
me: Knight of Infamy should work
Hess: nope
me: weird
Hess: well either way I won
me: lol, how do you figure?
me: so are you going to concede yet?
Hess: well since the game is broken I have to lol
me: of course, I understand
Hess: better luck next time, you might want to rethink your strat, its very weak
me: this isn't a deck I play, I'm just trying out some card interactions
Hess: I know, just saying that its terrible and needs a better plan
me: I'm sure you're right
Hess: had you beat on turn 2, that is just bad
Just conceding is not rage quitting. Sometimes you just know you lost and there is no point going on. However, saying things that Sene just listed and quitting is more a rage quit. The best rage quit would be saying that nonsense followed by a disconnection and timing out, preferably during your alpha strike or with lethal damage on the stack.
Indeed, the actual "rage quits" are easily identifiable but I think a lot of people including myself interpret "instaquits" as a lesser form of rage quit, especially when you haven't actually won the game or won't actually win the game for some time. They don't care to play the part of the game where you're in control and get to do your thing.
The OP is a good example of this, basically the opponent spent the early part of the game winning, dealing damage, and doing their thing. When it was MasterSplinter's turn to be in the drivers seat then the opponent promptly quit. It's still rude even if he didn't spew profanity and d/c.

Yep. I actually had one person cuss me out and rage after I managed to alpha strike through with 0.05 on my clock, and with him trying to make my clock expire by spamming me with things like group invites, anything the system would let him throw at me.
This is cheating and a very valid reason to get him warned/suspended/banned by WotC. You should report him for doing that.
One of the issues with Magic Online is that you must jump through hoops to report people. Last time I tried to talk with Orcs about it, they redirected me to this page, and it all took 10 minutes when it should only take a couple of clicks in-game.

Indeed, their whole customer help system seems broken. Even trying to let them know about a broken interaction (Vraska tokens that weren't taken out by Sever the Bloodline, not sure if they fixed it yet) would have required me to create an account and submit a pretty detailed form - that's what paid testers are for not customers!!!
They really just need a single button that when pressed asks you what you want to report, gathers the pertinent information automatically, and asks if you have any further comments. Oh well, I'm sure it's just one more thing they know about and have on their 5 year plan.
Oh hey, great idea - I've been saving these for a while
I wish I had saved the ones where people actually raged before disconnecting but I'm not actually expecting to be raged at so it usually takes me by surprise.
That third one is hilarious. I love the part where he tells you that he won turn 2.
And yes... what I posted I wasn't exactly a "rage quit in the profane way." I just think its funny because you don't learn the game if you don't play the matches fully. Who knows this guy could've top decked sign in a blood and won. I wish there was an area where people played more competitively without having to spend money on tickets.
Yep. I actually had one person cuss me out and rage after I managed to alpha strike through with 0.05 on my clock, and with him trying to make my clock expire by spamming me with things like group invites, anything the system would let him throw at me.
I raged once when I lost in the finals of an 8-man pod of a 64 person premier draft event for Modern Masters when the guy pushed through his lethal with 1 second on his clock. I raged because his clock flickered between 0:00 and 0:01 a couple of times. That was rough as it was the closest I've come to top 8 online.
Most of the people who rage at me do it in drafts when they think my deck is terrible or I top deck the answer I need to finish the game. Though some people aren't total asshats about it.
No that's not going to get him banned that's a caution or war ing at worst. After being on mtgo for a week I've noticed terrible people. A couple nice. Mainly don't talk or they are just bad people. I hate the dont talkers too. So annoying. At least be polite and say good luck enjoy the game. Don't be a D and say nothing.
Is it wrong to say when someone plays a total durdle unfun deck to just be brutally slow with your okay clicks? I figure that is gamemanship. They play noninteractive decks (i.e. eggs or grapeshot). Go make yourself a sandwich in between their playing mtg with themselves.
*food for thought maybe change this thread into the MTG etiquette thread*

Of course it's wrong. You don't get the right to be a jerk to the opponent even if you dislike the deck they're playing. At worst, you can tell them that you dislike that kind of deck and leave the game/match - don't stall them or piss them off in any other way to prove a point. You're definitely doing your cause a disservice that way.

Well, I'm not too upset about people not learning how to play or coming back from miraculous top decks, my problem with instaquitters is that they deprive me of the chance to have fun with my deck. So many times when someone instaquits on me I look at the clocks and I can see that they've spent 2-3 minutes more than me but after it was my turn to take control of the game they promptly quit (in fact you can see this in first 2 screenshots I posted).

So etiquette's a tricky thing on MTGO, it's not written down anywhere and it's not in the rules (other than refraining from misbehavior), so trying to play with an unwritten code can often get you labeled a scrub. Which would be true in competitive play but it's not so clear in the casual rooms.
Here's the way I see it:
Tournament Practice Room
This room is for people to practice their tournament decks, basically the only fouls here are misbehavior like harassment or d/c rather conceding.
If someone doesn't want to play against your deck because it's not up to snuff - no worries, if they're an aggro deck and quit after you stabilize - no worries, if they play a boring uninteractive deck - again no worries.
This room is set aside for people who are more interested in competitive play than having fun.
Just For Fun Room
This room is inherently more complicated etiquette-wise because it has the word "fun" in the title and "fun" is a subjective experience. Misbehavior is obviously a no-go, but also I think the choice of deck matters somewhat in the Just For Fun Room. Here are the types of decks I come across most often:
Budget versions of Tier 1 decks
Very irritating to play against when the main power of the deck comes from a strong opening (e.g. Delver, RG aggro) or uninteractivity (Hexproof) or is easily sideboarded against (Reanimator) most games in the JFF room are single games so there is no sideboarding. I think these decks should really be played in the tournament practice room because they're heavily based on tournament decks. However slower decks like budget control decks don't bother me so much.
Red Deck Wins / Other Aggro Decks
So these decks can be fun to play with and against, the main thing that makes ME want to instaquit when I see one is (in my experience) the high probability they will quit if I stabilize. Still it's good to play against these occasionally because they're common in actual paid events.
Piles of Jank
This is what I tend to play so I find it acceptable I still use fairly strong cards (but are also cheap) and often plenty of removal but my decks aren't based on any lists and are usually aimed at discovering interesting interactions and assessing their viability.
Piles of Actual Jank
These are the decks that consist mostly of limited jank. If the player plays quickly and is obviously familiar with MTGO then more power to them, they're playing that deck for a reason and I'll be happy to let them exercise it against my Pile of Jank. If they're taking ages on their turns, making misplays etc. then they're obviously a beginner, they should be playing these decks in the beginner room, not sure how best to go about bringing that up and I don't remember ever having suggested it to anyone, I think I just play it out :/
Off the wall decks with Strange Strategies
Fun to play against as long as they have some way to kill you, pillow fort, or these new decks that aim to use Obzedats Aid to recover Nicol Bolas or Omniscience are pretty cute, except when you only have a 1 or 2 power creature out and you realize they intend to steal it with Bolas and use it to beat you to death (and obviously putting a strong creature into play after bolas is silly because it will just get stolen). I'll usually give them a couple of turns to blow up my lands, steal my creatures etc. before giving the gg.
Actual Tier 1 Decks
These decks don't belong in the Just For Fun Room! Or at the very least they should be played in matches rather than single games. It's a waste of time for both parties, the Tier 1 player doesn't learn anything from beating a Just For Fun deck with a significantly lower power level and refinement, the JFF player doesn't get a chance to let their deck do its thing, and if they do lucksack the win then it's kinda neat but it's still a lucksack. Usually when I see Tier 1 decks in the Just For Fun room I ask the person what they find fun about playing that deck in the room, and wouldn't they get a better experience in the tournament practice room, I'm not rude or anything but I do want to bring it to their attention that I think it's a waste of their time and mine.
Oh hey, great idea - I've been saving these for a while
I wish I had saved the ones where people actually raged before disconnecting but I'm not actually expecting to be raged at so it usually takes me by surprise.
He probably felt like he won because he didn't notice lifelink on your attacking creature.
See I play Orzhov control in standard -- I know its not a tier 1 deck but outside of jund (their top decking is to hard to deal with) its fairly competitive. It's a variation on the golgari control that has more hand disruption and flippery interactions with resto.
I've been playing it for months and I get hated in tourney practice rooms because I'll often go down to 1-8 life before I take control. I wouldn't consider it jank but it beats tier 1 deck enough to draw rage quitty ire.
Modern seems to draw more quality players -- most people I play in modern tend to "stick it out."
Of course in modern when I play its all mood based. Although lately I've been loving loam decks and breach decks.
Turn 3: He attacks for 2 and passes. I draw nothing relevant and pass.
Turn 4: He attacks with sunstriker. I cast thought scour and simic charm, triggering dryad twice and pumping it to 6/6 with charm, and block.
"All I saw was a bunch of random ****. No good by me. You have been kicked out of the game."
Really, dude???
Welcome to cockatrice lol. I stopped using the program because of the amount of times I got kicked for silly stuff. I guess it's also because I'm one of those people that doesn't say much besides a hello and a GGWP, but ..
For me, the breaking point was when I was playing casual EDH and someone kicked me for flashing in Sacred Ground with Vedalken Orrery in response to his Armageddon.
People just get super entitled when they're online, anonymous and there's no accountability (ie no MODO moneys on the line)
They do ban people for poor behavior, so reporting does work. I have no idea what they actually think constitutes a bannable offense, but they will shut down account. I have embarrassingly had my account banned for a week years ago after a melt down following a pretty savage losign streak.

Yeah, but I thought it was fitting since there is a big movement towards people not behaving poorly online.
