they already mentioned in the m14 article there will be a batch of duals in Theros, and since m13 rotates as Theros comes in we shouldnt lack any duals in standard. I do wish Nimbus Maze and its kin show up
This thread is full of idiots... Lightning Bolt is NOT being reprinted.
Many times has a writer in Wizards said so, because of the plain and simple fact that it's too powerful for what it costs. x/3 creatures shouldn't be able to die at instant speed for one mana without a signifigant drawback. (like PTE giving you a land)
I absolutely guarantee that LB will not be printed in M10, and you can quote me on that.
we will not be getting fetches and shocks in the same standard. Lets be honest here. Having all of the mana-fixing we want just leads to different iterations of goodstuff.dec in those colors. The fact is, its not actually very inspiring when we have great mana-fixing because there isn't really any imagination that goes into deck-building. Why make some choices, when you can just play everything? Personally I will be glad to see the back of shocks in standard
This is pure speculation on my part, but my guess is that since they didn't have ten nonbasic land slots in 2014, they didn't want to include allied duals and not enemy coloured lands, in light of the ten Ravnica guilds needing equal support in terms of mana bases.

Maro also specifically stated that dual land cycles will tend towards being all 10 in the future. They've done cycles of all ten colour combinations in core sets in the past (with painlands), but I'm guessing that they realize that a heavy commitment to multicolour in RTR block wouldn't play well with having like 30 duals in the format, especially when ten of them are the shocklands. At that point, playing 3-4 colour goodstuff with no basic lands becomes more or less the best strategy around, and it's fair if Wizards doesn't want that.

Indeed. I quite agree with that viewpoint. I think Wizards learned their lesson with Lorwyn-Alara Standard in which the predominant strategy was five-colour control. Ugh. Broodmate Dragons and Baneslayer Angels abounded.

Not only that, but on-curve Cryptic Command while near-effortlessly supporting other spells with heavy colour requirements was pretty backbreaking. Granted, nothing in Standard is quite as ridiculous as Cryptic, but still...

Exactly! It really is a problem when something like that happens; when people can play 4+ colours without needing to worry about mana fixing. In my opinion, mana bases oughn't be able to support more than two colours without a significant drawback, but that's just me.

100% agreed, been wanting to see it's and Grove of the Burnwillows cycles see print since Future Sight. That being said I found see wizards printing the Life Lands (Grove Cycle) in Theros.
Not that I really care about there being duals in the core but I wish they wouldn't waste twenty slots on basics. Two for each would be fine and they could have ten extra slots available.
They did give us Burning Earth in M14, though, so that's a start.
Put all five of those cards in Standard, and you'd probably see a lot more basic lands showing up.
I'd even settle for Tectonic Edge back. Fulminator Mage would be cool too, and it'd drive its ridiculous price down. But Wizards doesn't like land destruction, so that kind of puts the kibosh on seeing cards like that again.
There's a reason for that. Land destruction in Standard and Modern is supposed to be about combating utility, not mana-screwing your opponent.
Wizards has been pretty clear on this, and it makes sense.
Didn't they also say Tectonic Edge would be too powerful to reprint? It's pretty much impossible to mana screw someone with that card, too (you could argue the "use two Edges in response to each other once they hit four lands" case but that's a really narrow situation).
The problem with fetches is that, when you combine them with shocks, you get more or less a perfect manabase. In a three-colour deck, any fetch can get you any colours you want. I'm all for having good cards in Standard, but even I think that combination would be too much for Standard.

I am all for that. I think there should be more love for mono colored decks.
I loathe creatures! Praise Prison and Land Destruction!

Haven't you gotten the memo? Wasteland's only printable if you add four mana to the activation cost now.

All I'm saying is that I understand why Wizards goes about land destruction the way they do.
It makes Mono Red/Burn a possibility of being playable, when players burn themselves.

They're not gonna put any of the fetchlands back in Standard at least until the shocks rotate.
