So the list is up on dailymtg, of the people who could be inducted into the hall of fame this year.
Amongst them are a few notables who seemed to pop out:
LSV
Guilliame matignon (controvertial! I'd give him my vote)
Wafo tapa
Tiago chan
Mark justice
Martin juza
Shaota yasooka
Plus others such as mikahara
Pop on over. Who would your five be?
For me, even though he got banned, i'd vote for matignon for being a prominent, humble and memorable ambassador of the game. Before his banning he really stood out for me as one of the best players, one of the nicest players, and his influence was positive.
LSV is also another who i would definitely vote for. His tireless commitment and positive outlook seems to be on another level to most people. I think he has brought more drafts to the masses than anyone else. And he's a real talent at the game as well. A good role model i suppose.
What are your thoughts?

Wafo tapa is just superior to matignon, but I still don't think either deserves it yet. Wafo is certainly famous and has an impressive resume, but I think he needs 1 more solid result.
Mark Justice and William jensen have been on the ballot for the last few years right? Since they haven't made it previously and there's actually a very strong list of newcomers, I doubt they'll make it this year either.
Saito definitely should be in. You should read PV's argument for him in his latest cfb article, but basically his already been punished enough, and if you look at his merits he undoubtedly deserves it.
I think Mikihara being on the list means Yasooka can't make it. Mikihara does have 4 PT top 8's and is an extremely good player, but I don't think he can generate enough support because his extremely quiet. He probably needs 1 more top8 to make it.
Juza doesn't stand a chance. In the grand scheme of things, his just a solid grinder. He'll need more PT top8's to make it in the future.
That awkward moment when the professional player that you just bashed posts right after you XD. Good guy Guillaume didn't ask to have his name submitted but he's earned it and I wish him luck . I hope that everyone here can respect the fact that these people have all earned the right to have their names put forward. It wasn't like they were the biggest personal cheerleaders with the loudest voices who made the strongest cases to WoTC or anything. Don't let the discussion devolve into "who doesn't deserve to be here" because they all unquestionably do. Rather, make your case for why someone should be inducted. No need to make people feel bad for doing something that they love well! Everyone there is already a winner; make the case for the ones who stand out to you :).
I know LSV will get it and deserves it, and obviously these are all good players, but more than anything I want Shouta to win, he's been an inspiration and his talent is off the charts.

I'm pretty sure LSV is a lock, and Tomoharu Saito would have one of my votes, as would Mike Jacob since he is definitely one of the best technical players in the game.
I doubt GerryT will make it, he is one or two top 8s away and is a big contributor to the community.
Wafo-tapa has my vote as well. Aside from just being an excellent player, he consistently has the best looking decks on the pro circuit.

LSV is clearly a lock, there's not really much to say about his candidacy.
Saito and Wafo-Tapa are two of the greatest players of all time and both deserve to get in. I want Wafo-Tapa to get in not just because he is an incredible player, but also because he shows a passion for the game. Most people think that truly competitive players don't care about the kinds of decks they play and only want to win, but he stuck with control decks even when they weren't that good because that is the kind of deck that he loves. That makes me see him as a real member of the magic community and not just another pro.

Huey missed last year by one vote. I'm sure he'll get it this year.
LSV should be an automatic inclusion. Frankly, it's sort of an embarrassment to Magic that he isn't already in the hall of fame.
He wasn't even eligible until this year.
@Wafo-Tapa: super disagree with everything you said on the topic, pretty much. I don't remember exactly how it went down, but I'm pretty damn sure he didn't attempt to hurt the community. He had a list of cards that he sent to the wrong people. Enormous mistake, but lifetime ban and "scumbag" tattooed on his forehead? No way. He was a really nice guy and tremendous player & deckbuilder who committed a grievous mistake that he has paid for. Whether he should actually be in the Hall of Fame is uncertain (in my eyes), but posting an auto-no and basically stating that it being a topic of discussion is ridiculous, is even more ridiculous in my mind. You're being bombastic and exaggerative, and you're hurting your case more than you're helping it due to that.
Anyway, my ballot would be LSV, William Jensen, Makihito Mihara. I think HoF is growing too large, and those are the only guys currently that I'm pretty sure deserve it. So yeah, I think I'd only vote for three guys. Wafo-Tapa, Ben Stark, Shouta Yasooka, Martin Juza, Tomoharu Saito - those are excellent players with strong results, but they don't feel quite HoF-level to me yet. Wafo-Tapa is probably the closest, though.

Mihara does deserve to be in now, I forgot about him even though he just made the top 8 of the last pro tour. I do think that Wafo-Tapa deserves to be let in though.

I actually don't know the stats for these guys, so this is just completely my opinion. Obviously the voters have to take into account the stats.
1. LSV - he has been the consummate Pro and I really began liking him when he was getting a lot of hate from others. He has the HoF stats, won 16 in a row at a Pro Tour, and beat me 10 years ago at Eudemonia in Berkeley at the Win a Mox Tournament in the top 4.
2. Saito has been a very animated character and always puts feelings into his decks and deck choices. I still remember his Hypergenesis deck and innovations. He is at least in the top 3 of all Japanese players of all time and that's saying something.
3. There was a time when I'd always see Martin Juza getting top 2. He seemed to be winning everything and I always thought of him as an amazing Limited player. Between him and Watanabe, I think they won all the tournaments around 2009, I'm estimating. Then I saw him do well with a GW Gavony Humans deck and I realized that he is not JUST good in Limited, but an overall amazing player.
4. Guillome Wafo Tapa. The reason I became a UB Dimir player. The decks that he'd build - Dralnu, Teachings, Quick n Toast, UB Control. They just sucked me in and I have never had a more fun time playing the game honestly other than Urza block. This really renewed my love for Magic and made me feel like I was this "awesome player" beating up on Aggro "noobs."
5. Shouta Yasooka. Honestly, I don't know much about him, but I've known his decks. I've enjoyed them immensely and when I looked up some stats about him, I was amazed. He actually is very close to the top of all Japanese players of all time. Look it up.
EDIT> Also about Saito being suspended. He was suspended for taking too long in matches. Once he has done his time, he shouldn't continue to take blame. If most of us played as long as he did at that level, we may have had some similar problems too.
As for Wafo Tapa, he was suspended for putting out the spoilers early. I don't know about you, but I see no problem whatsoever with this. We always look at the spoilers here. It gives us a feel for the new cards. I do not see this as a reason at all to exclude him from the HoF.
Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves

I agree, it is pretty hypocritical for people who wait with bated breath for spoilers, as soon as possible, from wherever they happen to come from, should support keeping someone out of the Hall because they provided some. Really, folks?
The guy did his time, with, as best I can tell, zero complaining. He's back, let the show go on.

If this was 1996, Mark Justice would be a shoe in. But it's been a long time since he's even played, and I guess it's been a long time since anyone even thought of his cheating incident.
My top vote would got to Vargas. He's done a ton for the game, and the image of the game, in recent years, as well as being a good player. Everyone who's every searched the internet for anything magic related probably knows who he is, which is saying something.
Yeah, LSV is a mortal lock. His results are already good enough (5 PT top 8s including a win, several GP wins), and his other contributions to the game are strong enough that I'd have given him a very good chance even with three fewer top 8s than he has. Absolutely no chance he is not inducted into the Hall of Fame.
i've got big love for gerry T. i'd like to see him get some good votes even though he's the 'young' contender. he's a great ambassador for the game, by any measure.

As of right now, Gerry maybe belongs in the Star City Games Open hall of fame. PT HoF?? Not so much.
Yes, he has served the punishment that was handed to him by the DCI and, though the ban was laughably miniscule considering the offense, he has served his sentence and should be able to play in sanctioned tournaments. DCI is the calling the shots on that one and, since we trust them in setting up the system, we should also trust their judgment on bannings. This much I do get.
However, those who are playing down Wafo-Tapa's offense seem to be missing the blatant ignorance he had for anyone's enjoyment of the new set. And we are talking about the entire MTG community here. You cannot defend him by saying that he showed it to the wrong people, it is all on him. He made to choice to show it anyone (and I'm pretty sure he wasn't supposed to do that, although I don't actually have evidence of that, it would just seem logical considering he got banned for it) and there is no right person or wrong person here. In an anology think of Wafo-Tapa having a bomb and him handing it over to someone and that someone then going on and blowing a whole bunch of people with it. Yes, he didn't ignite the bomb, but he did show that he could not care less what happens to other people by handing the bomb over to the guy (and yes, bombs and spoilers and not even remotely comparable in terms of seriousness, this is just to show the logic behind my view). In his mind, apparently, handing over the "bomb" was perfectly okay and he made that decision for all the people that then fell victim to it. That, is not a right he had.
So, yes, he should be allowed to play, because the DCI lifted his ban and yes, if the people running the hall of fame want him to be applicable, well, it's their call. All I'm saying is that if he gets in, it means the end of integrity of the hall of fame. It shows that the community weighs not one single bit when it comes to picking out the spokespersons for the game. I just personally dislike the idea that the hall of fame would gladly take in people who actively try to ruin other people's enjoyment of the game or, at the very least, could not care less about it as long as their results as good. They are free to have that kind of criteria, but I don't have to respect them for that choice and I definitely do not.
Should Wafo-Tapa somehow make it up to the whole MTG community at large, then it might be another story. Completing his ban just gives him the right to play the game, but not make him a person people should look up to. A good first step would be to turn down the invitation to the hall of fame, should he get, cause it'd be pretty egotistic of him to think he is worth it still at this point. He is a good player, I give you that, but a hall of famer he is not.
P.s. To the people saying this is just spoilers. No it's not. Just because you like looking at spoilers no matter where you get them, does not mean everyone does. Also, this is not just about spoilers, this is also about Wafo-Tapa seeing it fit that his friends should have an edge at tournaments by getting to analyze the upcoming format earlier than others.
I am very glad that you are the only one who shares these, curious, to put it mildly, views.
