Just as long as it's side-ways, I could care less which way they are. However, what bugs me is when people pile their lands on top of each other. I like to be able to count how many lands are tapped or untapped by glancing, not having to ask the person "how many untapped?" and then watch them count. ugh.
Oh my goodness, yes! I always like to spread out my lands as much as I can. I have the space, why not use it? My friends always tell me "Dude stack your lands", especially if I'm borrowing a deck, and it gets super annoying. I don't want to stack them, I don't want you to stack them.
Ive always tapped my cards clockwise. I'm a righty so it just feels natural when bending the wrist inwards instead of extending outwards. I'm sure for leftys its the same for their left hand. But I dont see a reason to make a fuss about it. Tapped is tapped

The official rules don't specify a direction a card has to be turned to indicate it being tapped.
But if someone was going to tell me not to tap to the right, I would point out that every ttt point to the right. Then I move my creatures and lands so my creatures were closer to me (the style of the 90's). Then I would proceed to tap and untap everything I could for about 5 minutes on my turn, every turn, just to get him on tilt. Then I would rules lawyer him about everything until he apologized or left.
There is no "proper" way to tap so long as it become horizontal. It does not matter whether the cards were turned clockwise or counterclockwise. I turn clockwise as it feels more comfortable for me, but it doesnt matter which way your turn tap them.

I've seen this in the thread a few times, and I just don't understand why. I tap right, but could tap left I suppose, but I cannot stand a chaotic board and cards tapped every which-a-way is just visual chaos IMO.
