I'm going to jump in and say that i believe the perfect fit in hyper mat is the way to go. I've tried nearly every type of sleeve and have never looked back. They are a bit more pricey, but buying in bulk from eBay it's not too bad. I just ordered five packs of black hyper mat for 35, and five packs of perfect fit for 25. So still a little pricey, but in my experience totally worth it.
It's funny how many mtg veterans come to this exact conclusion. That's not to say that there aren't those who prefer Dragon Shields (I enjoy them myself, just prefer Hypers), but I hear this over and over from long-time players.
Does anyone double sleeve with ultra pros? If so what's the protection level compared to some to kmc and dragon shield and kmc?
Ultra Pros are a very tight fit if you want to double sleeve. I would definitely spend a little extra to get dragon shields or KMC if you plan on double sleeving.
Well I know how kmcs and dragon shields work already as I heavily use both for single and double sleeving. Probably should have clarified that in my post but my main motivation for ultra pros is artwork. I am aware of their durability but have just never used them for double sleeving purposes. I would also like to learn why a tight fit with ultra pros hurts their usage.
Oh, I thought you meant Ultra Pros like the regular sleeve line or the Pro-Mattes. A tight fit really sucks with them because just sleeving them is extremely hard and it either slides out of the perfect fit or you could bend the card.
As for the artwork sleeves, yeah, I'm sure you're aware of their durability, but they double sleeve just fine with plenty of space. If you're really concerned about the artwork, You can sleeve over the artwork with KMC Character sleeves. I've even seen people sleeve over artwork sleeves with penny sleeves too.
Ok thanks for the informtation. I am not particularly concerned about the artwork though. My last question is how they compare for card protection to kmc and dragonshields. Does double sleeving make the choice of outer sleeves somewhat irrelevant as it only really matters there is some outside material to stop normal where and tear? Or does it actually matter that sleeves you play with are strong on the outside?
IMO, if you are double sleeving, the outer sleeve is definitely not as relevant, as any should provide a sufficient amount of protection after that. That being said, I enjoy sleeves on the outside that are durable and last so I don't have to change them as often/ split them.
It's funny how many mtg veterans come to this exact conclusion. That's not to say that there aren't those who prefer Dragon Shields (I enjoy them myself, just prefer Hypers), but I hear this over and over from long-time players.
I buy Dragon Shields for my standard-size sleeves because they're the only kind my LGS sells that come in packs of 100 (well, 100 plus change, I've never had a Dragon Shield box without a few extras) and all my constructed decks are EDH. I would rather buy one box of "100" count Dragon Shields, sleeve my deck and have a few left over, than buy two 80 count KMC or Ultra Pro and have 60 left over.
I'm currently resleeving my entire cube, as I cannot stand the crappy black ultra-pro's I currently have, far too many have split and ripped over the course of their short run. So the question is this:
What sleeves do you recommend? I would like some that are durable and are able to stand up to the punishment of people who might not care about the cards as much as I do. I also would like them in a dark color so they do not get dirty as easily. In my dream world, there would be a magical fairy that would grant me dark gunmetal grey sleeves. Sadly I have not found any such sleeves or fairy. Any thoughts on what brand would be good? Price is no barrier to quality either.
I was thinking about KMC and I used to have some, they feel real good in the hand especially when they are double sleeved.
But the problem is they don't have any (or at least not to my knowledge) in the colors that I'm after. However, I may end up going with them if I can't find what I am looking for.
Do the hyper mats fit into nicer ultra pro top loader pages? How about double loading the pages. Or would that be too snug? The rest of my collection is going in topload pages and yeah i am worried about thhem a bit. Because this is going to hold all the foils and will probably be double loaded -front & back.

Kmc hyper mat. Kmc perfect fits inside if you want to double sleeve. Best combo I've ever found.
This. End of discussion. Nothing else comes close.
I second this opinion.

I'm not really sure about putting them in binder sleeves. Perfect fits will go in both sides just fine, but I'm not sure about actual sleeves, they say warp. I always just went with a binder for trade stuff and a box with everything sleeved for my collection/stuff that goes in and out of decks.
And to the other question, i believe that they make four pocket binder sleeves for the oversized cards (commanders, planes, schemes), but they are probably not something your going to find in a store. Check online for those. Oversized deck protectors are becoming pretty common.

The answer is purple because ice cream has no bones.
Hm. If i do sleeves for the rest of the collection i'll need at least 1500. Wheres the best bulk?
How about stacking 60 perfect fits alone next to 60 hyper mats.
I don't think there is a difference in thickness between hyper mat and ultra pro. The hypers are just made a lot better. I don't have any unused hypers at the moment for comparison, cus I've been slowly double resleeving all of my decks. If there was some confusion about the picture, the left deck is double sleeved in kmc perfect fit and hyper mat, the right deck is single sleeved in standard ultra pro. The difference in thickness is pretty negligible, and honestly i prefer the doubled sleeves decks cus they fit better in hand, and i like to pretty aggressively shuffle. The cards are a lot more rigid, and protected to the point that i don't question if any will suffer damage by either myself or my opponent shuffling. In my opinion the peace of mind in knowing that the cards are really well protected AND I'm getting the best shuffle possible is well worth the process.

I've ordered Dragonshields from Potomac before, and they are definitely one of the cheapest sellers of bulk sleeves and other TCG accessories out there. I don't remember off the top of my head how long it took to deliver, but I don't think it was slow enough to dissuade me from purchasing from them again. Quality is fine, and I've never had issues with sleeves coming in from them. They're a solid choice, and probably the best for bulk around.

All right well you've convinced me, I'll check to see what they offer and hopefully I'll find something that ill be happy with. Thanks for the suggestion

Yeah, I just buy 5 packs, which is enough for 4 decks, when I need to reserve. They're slightly less expensive than Dragon Shields and I prefer the mat finish.
To your other comment, why is it that we always get 108 or 105 Dragon Shield sleeves?

Quality control. They try to ensure that there are 100 usable sleeves in each box by putting in a few extras.

Which sleeve is the choice for 'paging' cards? In a binder page that is. For clearest viewing without dulling any of the colors?
Of course fitting inside the page slot is also a priority.
