Actually, Dan Bock hasn't been a pro player for some time. He's a dealer in the Wisconsin/Minnesota PTQ circuit and an eBay seller. You'll commonly see trash sig'd by him for apparently no good reason.
This is all true.
I should have said "former pro player". The reason he still signs cards is that he used to be a pro player. It is the for same the same reason that retired baseball players still sign their cards for fans. Imagine a kid going up to baseball hall-of-famer Tom Seaver with a pen and a card and having him say "Sorry but I retired from that. I make wine now. I can sign a bottle of cabernet for you though." There are several retired Magic pro players who I would love to meet and get signatures from.
If it does make a difference to you however, this particular card was signed back in 2001 when he was a relevant Pro Player. He went to Pro Tour Tokyo the year that Invasion came out and I've been in possession of the card (and a few more from him) for nearly as long.
It is an interesting distinction to make to me. 11 years ago he was one of the top players in the world. Are you bothered by the commonality of the signature or do you feel that he is clinging to past glories and milking his 15 minutes of fame and dislike that aspect of it?

I recently got my copy of Ancestral Recall signed by my idol Tommy Wiseau. I know he has nothing to do with MTG, but I am still proud to have his signature on my favorite card.
Really interesting case I found... The only other time I've seen an artist sign a card that they didn't illustrate was on a misprint Blue Mana Battery where their name was listed as the illustrator (instead of Amy Weber). rk post is a pretty cool guy so I'm sure he just went with what I assume was nothing more than a quirky request at an event.
For me it has the same appeal as the signature of any other Magic personality and I place the same value on them. A fair percentage of my signed collection is not from the artist. I'll compare those against what I've got when I get home.
Of the grouping I posted over on the pimp thread earlier this year, 4 out of 9 signatures were not the artist.
Top Left: Jay Schneider - Columnist
Top Center: Richard Garfield - Designer
Center: Mark Rosewater - Designer
Bottom Center: Dan Bock - Pro Player
This is starting to annoy me to no end. What exactly is that Chinese Glen Angus card?
I think it's an alternate-art Coffin Puppets (depicting skeletons is apparently a cultural taboo in China)
Yup. That in combination with Glen Angus unfortunately being deceased means this is a prime example of a card that has potential to command a larger premium.
Is this Douglas Schuler's signature? Also why would anyone get this signed?
As to why, probably because someone was trying to fill a set. The perfect-world answer is that it is a sweet piece of memorabilia.
Here are some examples of his signature:
His signature is extremely regular. This is the first post where I would say that it doesn't look like his signature but looks like someone trying to copy his signature. I could be completely wrong but it doesn't match anything I have seen.
On a related note, could anyone ID this sig I came across? It definitely isn't his:

Since Lose Hope was printed in 2004, if there is a point in time where he switched over it can't be before then.
What I suspect though is that the M type signature takes more time and 2 separate pens so he does that one when he has the time and pens on hand, like through the mail, and otherwise signs his name out, like when he is at conventions. I don't know the truth of it though.
All of mine are M type signatures.

He is absolutely clinging to that past glory, lol...
I've met him on multiple occassions, and he is, well... hrm, how to say it politely? A weasel? He's actually a nice-enough guy, but he'd steal the farm right out from under you in a deal.

Amazing Avy & Sig by mchief111 @ Rising Studios [4/22/11]
Was playing at a LGS a few weeks back, and someone there commented on the signature on my Watery Grave, stating it to be fake based on where it was signed, that Rob always signs at the bottom of the card. I also compared the signature to a buddy's signed shockland and they did look a decent bit different.
I had traded a NM non-signed Watery Grave to a shop I go to for the signed version, since most people value signed less than NM they let me do a straight trade. So kinda worried now that it may in fact be worth even less since the sig might be fake.
Doing some cursory ebay searching and looking at a few cards I have signed by him, you are probably ok. Most of his cards are signed at the bottom, but about 10% of the cards I found on ebay were signed higher. Also, the actual signature looks exactly like all three that I have. Take this with a grain of salt, as I am NOT an expert, just trying to help out.
EDH is like French fries: some people like waffle cut, crinkle cut, or plain old straight cut, and while there's slight flavor difference and personal preference, at the end of the day they're still fries.
Thanks, does ease my worries a bit hearing that. I hadn't really doubted it before that night, especially since I trust the shop I got it from, but I couldn't help wondering.
This is all true.

That is not the signature of Richard Thomas. It's the sig of Peter Adkison, Founder of WOTC and now CEO of Gencon.
This is an example of a Rich Thomas sig

I know it's not Una Fricker, I mean jeez, that's almost impossible. I'm guessing a random signature, but it is a nice signature however.
