In terms of a good story I really had to say that The Brother's War was probably the best story that MTG has ever told and would definitely be the best one for a movie. While I love the Weatherlight Saga and Gerrard's story I feel that it is probably too long with too many character's to be contained in a movie and would probably do better as a TV series.
Also I have to toss down the story of Jodah (I believe it was The Dark and Ice Age) as one of my favorites as well. Jodah was a great linking character and Chandra wishes she was Jaya Ballard.
I really think the best trilogy for Brothers' War through Invasion would actually be two trilogies.
Trilogy 1:
1. Brothers' War
2. Urza's Odyssey (travels through the multiverse, a romance with Xantcha, her death, some light bit of revenge, e.g. artistic license to have Gix kill Xantcha and then Urza kills Gix rather than the sacrifice) (maybe Gix has been the long-running villain to this point, and this movie reveals the sinister Yawgmoth; movie ends with a vow to kill Yawgmoth?) (this movie loosely follows Planeswalker novel)
3. Urza plans his revenge but maybe descends into madness; climax with the glimmer of hope of Gerrard arising and winning some confrontation with Phyrexian agents in Benalia before Urza explains his plans (loosely follow Time Streams and Bloodlines)
If done correctly the transitions from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 would operate somewhat like the transitions in the Bourne trilogy. Ideally the themes in these movies would be more adult but with action.
Trilogy 2:
1. Gerrard and Weatherlight crew travel to Rath, resolve by escaping ("Rath and Storm")
2. Escape to Mercadia, whatever goes on there, climax with making it back to Dominaria and cryptic warnings about final invasion ("Mercadian Masques")
3. The Invasion. you know.
Modeled on Pirates of the Caribbean, hopefully it does well. Gerrard has to be the main character. Obviously marketed more to kids and young teens. Reaches a climax at the end of the third movie; <3. They could actually do this one first and then go back to the Urza movies if this one goes well.
Close, certainly not a bad idea... My suggestion is this:
The War and Urza's saga would be served best with a trilogy geared towards the young adult segment.
Weatherlight and Gerrard would be great for a cartoon, dedicated to expanding our player base.
The way I'd see it, make two movie trilogies, with the original Mirrodin block being the first trilogy, addressing the situation with Memnarch, the origin of Mirrodin, Glissa's storyline and the storyline of another main character that makes an appearance in Scars.
Then Scars makes a new beginning, perhaps start with the early corruption of Glissa, the main character of the original Mirrodin, and then move on with new characters (the planeswalkers) plus the other character from the first trilogy, to see the corruption of Mirrodin happen up close, with a lot of drama and gore. Seriously, also Scars and the whole evil and disgusting atmosphere of Phyrexia would be visually stunning.
Haha as y'all might see, I could see this happening. If there'd be budget though.
I don't think it'd be a good idea to create a movie based on the Scars storyline without a movie based on the original Phyrexian invasion. The Phyrexian Oil is kind of a major component of the transformation of Mirrodin into New Phyrexia, and without something to root the nature of Phyrexia in, I don't think it would flow well.
I participate yearly in a survival challenge in which I am dropped off in the wilderness with 1 days rations, a knife, and no other supplies, and have to find my way home. This is typically several weeks hiking from civilization.
I have personally killed several bears in the course of this challenge, with the use of snares and other traps.
I would like a Movie for all of them but since Magics storyline is continuous and connected through the Planeswalkers I would really like them to start at the beginning.

It really is all about Urza and Mishra. The polls prove it
the only two possibilities that would uber-likely get any kind of decent pass imho would be either the brothers war with teh intention that if it sold well, it would lead to the movies just going through magic history chronologically block by block. huge project but wizards would find this the perfect excuse to support older formats of legacy and vintage by releasing FTV style special sets concurrent with the movies, ideally showcasing story elements from teh movie as cards. or the more likely possibility would be a movie based on a as yet unknown story/block developed specifically for this purpose, hopefully wriiten and worked on by a professional writer, no offense to wotc creative, they do a very good job, but they don't write books or movies.

Do you know what would be cool with a Magic: The Gathering Movie? If they gave a promotional booster pack with each ticket, (even if every booster pack was identical or there were only 2 or 3 versions) featuring flavorful reprints from the block in question. This probably wouldn't be a way to get Planeswalker cards of Pre-Lowryn Planeswalkers, as they don't like to print new cards for this sort of promotional item... Then again it might be cool enough to be worth it.
I voted for "The Brothers' War" because it is an epic story that spins off into so many directions, both forward and backwards through time. If it were successful, I think both sequels and prequels would be considered, kind of like the X-Men movies.
I really, really liked the Ice Age story and trilogy of books as well. I would have voted for this one, but like I said, "The Brothers' War" just opens the door for so many other movies, including Ice Age.
By the way, Jeff Grubb wrote "The Brothers' War" and the Ice Age trilogy ("The Gathering Dark," "The Eternal Ice," and "The Shattered Alliance.") He's a really good writer and probably a reason so many people love these stories.
I could see Ravnica/Return to Ravnica working as a TV series. Intrigue, warring factions, deception, espionage, murder, monsters and maniacs make for great television.
Kamigawa block's storyline wasn't about the Kami war, per se. It's about Toshiro Umezawa making life unbearable for people on every side of the war. And that is why it would make a fantastic anime series
Brother's War is the only answer for the first movie in an incredibly epic series culminating with the final showdown.
Thar...fixed for ya.
I would LOVE to see that...and then they could Lucas it up, and do the Thran as a prequel, but retcon just enough that people would complain, and they could say "This was our definitive version the whole time!"
Then they could spin off the rest of the stories like Ravnica and Mirrodin under the same banner/universe, but not part of the same grand epic.
One thing that I considered is that the chances of an epic movie that is actually good are very very slim. While there are exceptions, gaming industries have pretty consistently put out bad cheesy movies since forever. I wouldn't expect Lord of the Rings; I would hope for Dungeons & Dragons the movie but expect Super Mario Bros. the movie. Remember when The Sorcerer's Apprentice had Magic branding? Also reference every MTG commercial ever. Fortunately I like cheesy bad movies.
I think that The Brothers War would make the best good movie but I would hate to see it butchered. I think that the Weatherlight saga or Invasion would be better suited to what would actually be made.
Anyways, I think I voted for Ice Age because it could work either way and I love the set.

I thought this was the thread with the legendary signature quote about Samuel L. Jackson as Koth of the Hammer. Just for that idea, I voted for Scars.
