I am just wondering has anyone ever run into those oddballs at your LGS? Often during tournaments I try and make conversation and make the game enjoyable, but I sometimes run into the guy who won't speak or is EXTREMELY over protective of their cards. I recently played a guy who was terribly angry when I placed my Oblivion ring on his Mikeaus the Lunarch.
I just want to know if this is just my crappy luck..
Value is good. But Dredgevine isn't supposed to be about value. It's supposed to be about V-8; 2000 pounds of nitro boosted war vegetables. The more velocity, the better.

Without you going into more detail it's distinctly possible the guy you mentioned was just mad you played removal on his bomb, and wouldn't you be if the same happened to you?
Honestly, Magic players are just people, and when you're dealing with strangers it's always a crapshoot. Sometimes you'll get paired with a nice person and sometimes with an *******.

A certain number of people will just be strange for sure. I don't want to invoke stereotypes... but magic players aren't usually seen as paragons of normalcy.
When RTR dropped there was a guy playing at the LCS who had no sleeves on his cards and used a rubberbands on his decks and spent 5 minutes ranting about what a waste of money sleeves and deckboxes are. When a guy pointed out that his cards from the Innistrad block were already practically destroyed he started screaming "Liar! You are a LIAR!"

If that's your "casual," what on earth is required for "formal," a butler in livery shuffling the decks whilst a pianist plays Brahms in front of a tapestry?
Where I play there is a player that occasionally can place a permanent underneath another permanent of his so that it becomes harder to see it. For instance putting Rix Maadi Guildmage 70 percent under a non attacking/non tapped/non activated Keyrune. He can also be vague about which creatures he just attacked or blocked with, especially on his turn if he controls a vigilance creature.

There is one guy at my LGS that does this with lands, not really to be shady, but will flip a forest under the others in the same row instead of just setting it on top.
Last night someone cut my deck in 60 parts, then took fifteen minutes to get it stacked back up. I was on RG Turbofog and we didn't finish game 1
Pretty sure he gets a warning for stalling for that crap.
I'm pretty sure I'm the weird one, I'm a little ocd so I always use a mat, double sleeve decks with foils in them, wince when people slid my deck across the table to cut, and a myraid of other things. I'm also quiet and mono-toned though that is from allergies (imagine having to deal with your voice cracking if you aren't careful how you speak 24/7).
I wonder what my opponents say about me out of curiosity? Maybe that I always have to have a nice padded chair and three playmat stacked.
There is a regular in our group and he is the angry, frustrated guy. Last night when playing EDH he was complaining that everyone was picking on him. He had the highest life total and there were plenty of wraths including from him.
Then there is the non-regular guy (well over 20 yo) that is always in a hurry that he asks "Is it my turn, is it my turn" and when he plays a removal he will take your creature and put it in the GY if you are not right on it. I tell him not to touch my stuff and I have a counter.
Im the only one in my play group to actually announce the name of my cards as i play them :/
I know alot of people in the FNM i used to go to that wouldnt even do that and you spend asking ok what is it u played.... oh ok how much did u play sphinx's revalation for :/

Actually, I had the most fascinating experience last night at FNM.
Most of the players at our LGS are young enough to be my kids, but last night I played against this new guy who actually looked older than myself but is only 42. Must be hard living.
All kidding aside. Really nice guy with a fascinating story. He served in the Navy during Desert Storm and for 3 years after. Now, if you know your military and Magic history, the end of his "tour" was around the time of Revised. Well, he actually stopped playing right after Legends. But while he was stationed on his ship, during his free time he played Magic.
Anyway, he told me of the stories of trading away "stupid" mox and Lotus for "good" cards like Nightmare, which was his favorite card at the time.
He still has some of his old cards, including a few dual lands, but most of his old collection from what I got from our conversation is gone.
He was a pretty good player too, playing the old style we used to play back in the day when everybody, when casting creatures, would turn them around so that we could read the text. I don't know when we stopped doing that (Even I don't) but I can't remember the last time I played against somebody who did that.
Anyway, he said he was going to bring his binder next time he came if he remembers.
After our match, I just sat and talked with him until the top 8 began.
I guess the point of all this is, most of my experiences at my LGS are really pleasant, which is why I look forward to going each week.
I think I am quite quirky, but I also tend to play with people who don't mind it (i.e. casual with friends). I play slowly and think out my moves, don't like others to shuffle my cards, like to read my opponents cards unless I am very familiar with them, and like to talk while I play.
So, these are pretty much things I know would infuriate people at a FNM. It's not my intent to annoy others and so I keep myself from competitive play than make others have to deal with me.

What's working with talking while you play? Conversations while play is Norma at my LGS, I also read other s cards sometimes ( for the most part I know the standard cards), and go be honest rushing a game isn't much fun.

There are some very strange people in magic. The best way to avoid these people is to drop at 0-2 at large events. There you will encounter bad/angry/stoned people.
There are a few kids (10-14, I think) at the lgs that I play at who strike me as quite strange. I'm only 24, and I'd really like to know when 12 year olds started swearing more than I do (I consider my speech fairly vulgar at most times). One example is one of the aforementioned kids was looking to acquire a thragtusk for a deck and asked my gf if she had one for trade while she was playing a match. She replied with a polite no, and went back to playing. I then overheard the kid telling his friend that "that *****ng **** won't trade her thragtusks cause she's using them in her stupid *****ing rites deck, I hope she gets her ass raped next round.". I just sat there dazed for a few seconds before I went to tell the TO about it... is this the norm with kids nowadays or is this an extreme case?
Also, there's 1 player that used to come to fnm that wore headphones the entire time and wouldn't say a word to his opponents during his matches. He also always assumed that nobody ever had a response to anything he did, and put his spells directly into his graveyard. I.e.: immediately drawing cards after casting Sphinx's revelation, immediately picking up and searching his library for a land after playing farseek, placing an o-ring atop whatever he was exiling with it, placing a thragtusk on the bottom of his library after a terminus cast, choosing targets and exiling them with angel of serenity, and immediately laying out the top 3 cards of his library after placing a Jace, aot on the table. He once actually started scooping up his cards immediately after swinging with a lethal board when I had a cyclonic rift in hand with apt mana to overload it. He then started filling out the result slip as I revealed the rift in my hand... He then said he would've countered it anyways, then got upset when I wouldn't sign the slip and called a judge over.
The aforementioned group of kids have also been making it a habit to watch and comment on other people's games. Including calling out what they would've done, commenting on whether of not something will get countered, and revealing play styles from previous games. One example is when one of the kids was playing against my gf and her rites deck. She cast jarad's orders, it resolved, and she started to look through her deck. The kids friend, who had played against her multiple times, told the other player that she was looking for an angel of serenity, and, if she wasn't, it meant she had one in her hand. She grabbed a griselbrand and a troll to put in her yard and hand, respectively, then lost both the angels in her hand to slaughter games on the next turn. She had never played this player before, and had not played a white mana source yet, so I think it's reasonable to assume that the kid wouldn't have chosen angel without the insight from his friend.
Also, there's a guy there who I'm fairly certain is gay, as he flirts with me every time he's there. I'm usually fine with it and take it as a compliment (every gay guy I know is extremely picky), but my gf gets a little upset, lol. I'd just really like to know what's up with him, as he always shows up with the same girl, who I assume he's dating.

i used to play a cheap discard deck full of junk and commons, now people didn't like playing this deck cause it stopped them playing all their expensive cards.
one time this guy came in with a $1k blue white control deck full of the usual overpowered crap like jace the mind sulptor and squardon hawks, so I just took his hand apart, i mean just had him down to 1 card lol before he did one damage to me.
So he just stands up, squares me up and starts swinging, all this during the middle of game 1. I know how to handle myself so I just took the blows, then started taking him apart methodically. nobody at the game store ever messed with me again
There's this one guy at my LGS from a foreign country, and granted he understands English enough, but he plays so SLOW. When he takes his turn I have already planned out my turn, what I'm going to do after the match, and what I want for dinner that night.

Wow, that's pretty intense. I've never had anyone actually come out swinging on me before. I did however have an opponent flip the table in classic tantrum style, which would have been really annoying if the table hadn't smacked him in the head and knocked him cold for a minute or two. He pretty much became the laughing stock of the LGS.

Sorry, I read this and thought it was a King Pun post.
I had only been playing a couple of months and was new at a shop playing a younger kid who was a regular. I didn't know it (till afterwards), but some of the better players had been helping him and his deck and he was now at the point he felt he could win it all. I had just made my very first infect deck and hadn't played it or played enough to realize just how hated/feared it was. I played him in the 1st round and I beat him both games in just a few moves. As he was packing up, he started to cry. Then he started to really cry . . . then sobbing and almost wailing till he just ran out of the shop. At that point, every other person had stopped their games and was looking at me. I was literally at a loss for words. I just packed up my stuff and grabbed my phone like I was gunna start texting. I felt the blood burning in my face and sure felt badly. Later that night, I talked to him and he said he was sorry n all. I told him I was sorry for what happened and it seemed to get straightened out in the end.
I just want to know if this is just my crappy luck..
