I'd like a newer brown effect, the one that MSE offers for "brown, while still modern" frames..
The one i've attached, while still brown, it's still modernized, so it doesn't look too rusty. I've been playing this game since before alpha, and while i love the old brown, the frames should stay modernized in a way, and this is a good example of showing the "rusty" effect of an artifact, without confusing it for white (for colorblind people). This is my suggestion, and while it may not happen, this is a wishful thinking/hope for the future.
The 20th anniversary would be a good time to change things, but people generally hate change, so expect lots of needless *****ing and moaning.
As a further Example, i've included Pithing Needle in this frame, and while it's harder to notice the artist's name on this brown, it's imo, not as ugly as the Pre 8th (which i'm also including for reference)
Ravarshi Kashaku, Ancient Dragon of the Darkened Realms;
The Merciless Lord of Torture, Permanently Bound To: ">[THE PACK] 11/5/63 - 11/25/09 Goodbye mom, i'll always love you...
I'm sure there's SOMETHING about them I don't like, but I can't think of what it may be, so I'll go down as saying that, with the caveat that I reserve the right to say "Oh yeah, there's THAT," I'm all in favor of the aesthetic changes made at 8th.
The old Magic cards had a "cartoon-y" look to them. And yet there was something cool about them. I can't place it. The artifacts especially were so different because they didn't look like the other cards and had kind of an antique look to them. Some cards especially looked very cool.
The new Magic cards have a more professional but, IMO, sterile look. Kind of like modern furniture. Sure, it looks modern and even futuristic in some ways. But compare it to an antique desk and you can see the difference.
I like the new cards because they're easier to read. But that has nothing to do with the borders.
One thing is for certain. There is a definite divide between the old and the new. I can understand players preferring one or the other.
Old border and colors all the way. I feel the modern frames took the visual style of the game from one evocative of fantasy and sense of intrigue to something mechanical, formulaic, and sterile.
It's the difference between a 1960's muscle car and a modern Lexus. Yes, the Lexus is better build, safer, has vastly improved technology and overall is a more advanced driving experience. But I'll take a 1974 Dodge Charger any day of the week. The Lexus may be technically the better car, but the Charger is so much more fun, and has an iconic sense of style the Lexus can't even begin to touch
Definitely old frames, except when you got print runs that looked very washed out. The art was more simplistic, yet more fantasy-like and mature. I guess I sort of still have a sour taste in my mouth when 8th and Mirrodin came along with the new frames, and it was nearly impossible to distinguish white from artifacts.
Due to real-life obligations, I am taking a long break from Magic which may include missing the local Legacy GP. Apologies for not being able to keep my threads updated.
Old frames and borders all the way. When you compare the old cards with modern ones, the classic cards evoke a feel of fantasy, something archaic and ancient. Almost mystical, modern cards just look sterile, bland and formulaic. Sure they are good but they are lacking soul.
Its like as someone else said, the difference between a Mercedes Benz SLS and 1938 coupe. Sure the modern car is faster, safer, and more streamlined but it has no soul to it.

Otherwise, I'm more of a fan of the old. It's not that I do not like change, I just feel that the old style represented how the game should feel and it's main presence. But all of that is just, like...my opinion and stuff.

Yeah. I'm building a custom cube using this frame for the artifacts. I love how it makes the difference between white and artifact very apparent.
Imo, the only unfortunate part of the changeover to the modern face was the background color change for artifacts. For what its worth, I like the new face much better than the old one though.

I really like the brown you did. Great job!
But to be honest, I don't want my cards looking different. I actually really like the new look of the cards as a whole, and I wouldn't want to go back to the old style or create more confusion by changing colours.
I would definitely prefer a brown border on artifacts. I'm a big fan of the old borders. In fact, a lot of the original appeal of the game for me were those borders that had such an ancient and mystic feel to them.
I could see equipment having a different, silver border. Or at least a silver inner border around it, kind of like how gold cards have different colored inner borders.
I could also see a brown and silver mix on artifacts, like they are partially rusted or slighty covered in dirt because they were recently unearthed.
That brown on the modern frame looks real good and is what artifacts should look like with the new frame. Obviously Wizards won't go back to the old style but artifacts with brown like that would be nice.
Brown and silver both work pretty well for different settings, but the brown border would look terrible on Mirrodin and the silver border looked terrible in Lorwyn. I think a compromise between the two might help.
Also, no matter your feelings on the border changes, the new gold border is a million times better looking. I can only imagine how awful Alara Reborn would have been if I had to look at that hideous mustard and mud border from the old cards.

The wedding is over. Now it's time for the honeymoon.
YES! Not that I really care either way, but I'd certainly be stoked. It's win-win for Wizards as well...they could slowly reprint the entirety of silver artifacts as brown artifacts and people would gobble them up! NB/BF Aether Vials for $60 each direct from their website!

Next possible deck: D&T, but that just wouldn't be right.
Modern: R Goblins (work in progress)
Standard: I only care about standard when Goblins is a deck.

The old looked too much like lands of the same era, for one thing.
Secondly, I evoke the nostalgia rules. I started Xth onward, so I am cozier around the new style presentation, just as much as most of those who liked the old frame. Exceptions are bound to exist for sure, but it's not an overwhelming majority.
Personally, they should print more old border (or maybe an in-between style mix of new and old border). I would love to see some non-foil old border equipment like the judge promo swords, but i think it should not be overused, like no old borders in new sets, just some new easier to obtain promos with old border.
Hoping for a cure, or at least an outbreak.
