You want future generations, 200 years from now, to know/understand how awesome Magic: the Gathering was. Richard Garfield has thrown in a complete set of Power 9 to kick things off. Every Magic player is allowed to throw one card of their choosing into the capsule. Which one do you choose and why?
I'm sticking with Birds of Paradise. It's one of the few cards (if not THE card) that has defined the color green since the game was introduced.
And fail to teach future generations the downside of color bleed? Absolutely not. The capsule needs 10 copies, nay, 11! All history books will be lost in 200 years--they'll need several extra copies to hang up in museums as the perceived reason behind the Hindenburg disaster, the bankruptcy of Hostess, and Honey Boo Boo.
Personally I'd throw in the early mascots of magic: Baron Sengir, Prodigal Sorcerer, Juzám Djinn, Serra Angel, mos def a Counterspell, and heck, how bout a Leviathan everybody loves a leviathan... memories of whispering to my friends about the rumors of the existence of a 10/10 Leviathan. That's when Magic was realer than life itself to me.
Dark Ritual (Ice Age or Original Art) because it's an awesome card
with bonus points for confusing the annoying anthropologists trying to make sense of the game.
"This game must have had some religious or spiritual meaning to the 2000ites, blah blah pointless
worthless theories, baseless speculation etc..."
Honorable mention would be Hymn to Tourach (irony points for being from Fallen Empires).
My entire werewolf tribal deck. DFCs were executed elegantly and future generations should see just how far things can be taken in Magic the Gathering while still "feeling" like Magic. The deck also teaches how to manipulate/utilize the stack as a resource, which I believe is an extremely important skill to have in Magic the Gathering.
If I had to pick one card from the deck though... Huntmaster of the Fells The card that contains the most words within its text box(es) in the game of Magic and this card alone teaches the importance of the proper timing of casting your spells and learning the stack.
I use the Duels Of The Planeswalkers layout, though I'm right-handed and keep my deck and GY to the left. I dare you to ask me how tempting it is to hold flying creatures in a floating pattern over the table.

(Granted, some of the rules details will be wrong, but they're card size and close enough to get the gist of the game.)

Its all about context. If this time capsule was full of graceful antelope and boggart arsonists, great wall might suddenly be highly playable...
Or just throw in necropotence (any version except the "from the vault" edition). Yeah I'll go with that

I don't always post about Rafiq of the Many, but when I do, I cardlink to the original artwork, and not the supplementary product version.
